You may want to contact these guys on a lark...

JPS Motorsports, now making Speedster replica kits, used to be known as Auto Speed.

I was years a go in contact with John from JPS.
Unfortunately he was not able to give me much information and he had no documentation left.

Based on this situation I'm trying to find some information via Auto Speed Cobra Owners!

Thanks for every input.

Alf, Check out this site. Maybe something of interest.. middle of the right column

"Scott Richey guides his Contemporary/Autospeed Cobra 289 FIA (No. 26) along the road course, where he finished in Second Place. Scott set up his 289 with a Ford SVO 351 Windsor, which is good for 375 hp."

As far as the Contemporary 289FIA goes...the body mold was produced by AutoSpeed out in California. It was used on the seven FIAs produced by Contemporary....5 were LHDs and 2 were exported to UK as RHDs. Autospeed was not involved in the building of the Contemporary cars in anyway, just asked to build a body to fit the Contemporary frame.

As I understand it, when Contemporary/Burtis went belly up, the FIA mold went back to Autospeed. It was not included in the fire sale to FFR of the 472SC and Ferrari 250 molds.

End of story...end of involvement. Not sure if Scott would be able to provide anymore insight into Autospeed than that.

I was close to the Burtis shop when they closed (since my car was locked inside!) and knew of a lot of the 'goings on' when they closed down.

Not a lot of info on Autospeed in cybernet.

Hi John

Many thanks for this information.

I've now one question, which I hope you can answer:
- Did Auto Speed only build the mold or did they also build cars?
To understand this would help to see, if my car is one of this 5 Contemporary LHD's or if it is something built before or afterwards directly from Auto Speed.

I did send "r scott richey" a PM by hoping he can give more light in to my cars history.
Many thanks for any support.
