Talking New Cobra design

Hello to you all.

There were many threads about the new Cobra; how it looks, how it could be; how it should be…

But I still would like to make my own Cobra design.

I think that a new Cobra should be as round as possible, and with a clean line, big wheels and lots of charm.

Here it is a first idea… more to come.

Appreciate any comments and thoughts!

Best regards from Portugal,
Ernesto Freitas

Ernesto,

I like your drawing very much, as I did the previous ones. In fact, I like it better, but perhaps that's because it is so much closer to the original. Knowing Ford's design objective was to suggest, but not replicate the original AC classic design, my guess it would be perceived as too close. Thus, I think Buzz's more subtle changes will more likely be greeted with a sympathetic look.

You are very talented.

P.S. Mark IV.....wow, didn't know there was anyone left in the world that remembered the "Firesign Theatre."

Looks pretty good. Are those turn signals or driving lights below the head lights? How about mirrors. Maybe you could come up with a design that is actually usable.

Thanks for the pic.

Thanks for your kind words.

In fact, the idea of this drawing is to replicate the original AC classic design. I like the original lines, so why shouldn’t I work it out, putting them more modern?

I’m already working in a second idea, this one a little more contemporary one…

P.S. Mr Bruce, I would like your comments too.

Best regards from Portugal,
Ernesto Freitas

Ernesto,

There's no reason why you shouldn't work on it. Go for it! A lot of people here like your work very much. This forum attracts a lot of influential people in the performance automotive world.

Beautiful drawing, Ernesto! Starting with a clean slate, however, instead of creating another Cobra replica (which is one of Ford's fears) I would go radically different while keeping the Cobra spirit intact. Something like this...

Default A family affair...

Some people said that the louvered hood reminded them of a Viper. How about twin NACA shaped cooling air extractors to cement the family ties to the Ford GT? The rear brake scoops are also a strong Ford genetic trait and will show some brotherhood with the new Mustang. That wouldreally make a strong statement towards Ford's "power trilogy" idea.

Ernesto, I really like the way you smoothed and contoured the front light and radiator opening area on your design. Updating that part of the car and still keeping the Cobra look is quite difficult but you've done a beautiful and subtle job. I'm anxious to see your next concept.

Buzz,

Your talent is unquestioned.

What is with the smiley face you gave that car though? I started seeing old advertisements of the Dodge Neon smiling at me the more I looked at it.

Default Discussing Miss Daisy

Maybe I'm over reacting to the unhappy mug on the front of Project Daisy!
Actually, I'm really trying to achieve a snake like "face" up front - still needs some work, though.
Clay, yes it is. She's a dear friend and a great model. I have photographed her extensively and that happens to be one of my favorite pics in her portfolio! Maybe she's the reason the car has that $h-t eating grin!
Actually by an uncanny coincidence, about 2 years ago I christened her with the nickname "Miss Daisy" because she's such a charmer she gets driven anytime, anywhere she wants to go!

Default Jiving Miss Daisy

Just havin' some fun with this whole new Cobra thing. Here's a side view of the REal Miss Daisy for Clay & Clb and everyone.

Ernesto, how's the new drawing coming along? It would be very interesting to see your next step in the evolution from Cobra to contemporary. Did you know that John Tojeiro is still in the Cobra business? Last I heard he was the technical director for Dax; Britain's leading Cobra replica manufacturer.
