Kirkham Envy
OK, now that's just wierd!
Flash back to 1964......
Florsheimshoes, Adler sox, Kingston trio, my 1959 Bugeye Sprite: Life is good.
I'm passing by the local Ford dealer, and what's that thing in the window? A Shelby what?
Stopping by to get a closer look, I'm suddenly drawn into the Cobra's mystique.
Price: a 289 $6,000.00; a 427 SC $10,000.00 my Bugeye $800.00.
Rats. Lusting after a car I'll never be able to afford.
The car in the window was bought by a 50+ year old guy. "What's that old guy doing driving that neat car?"
Fast forward 40 years (Gasp!).
I have a very nice Shell Valley, goes fast enough to scare this old guy.
Price: $21,000.00 +++++ (ended up closer to $48,000.00)
BUT ITS NOT ALUMINUM. Am I now in the wanna-be crowd again?
Could probably afford a Kirkham, but the wife is still crabbing about the amount of money I spent on the Shell Valley.
So.
Now the questions are different: Not is it a REAL Cobra, but is it an ALUMINUM BODY? (No contest; WE know which is a better deal)
Has my really nice fiberglass rocket ship become second best , no make that third best, behind Kirkhams and REAL Cobras?
Maybe I'll just continue to play catch-up, and be embarrassed when I drive my 'glass rocket....."What's that old guy doing driving that neat car?"
HEAVY SIGH.
