Exclamation BJ Auction WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anybody else catch that stunning 1967 GT500 fastback that just sold for over $250,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talk about over spending, I would have expected $95,000-$120,000 tops...........

Lots of bizzare prices this year on some of the strangest items....................

I have to ask, are these for real????? Or are we going to see a few of these cars back up for sale at the West Palm Beach auction later this year..................

I think the buyer was Ted Waitt, founder of Gateway.

Had to laugh when Yates said..." ..the car has provenance"

...yeah, with a new Shelby alloy block.

They said Shelby signed off on the car being correct. Since they put a Shelby aluminum 427 in the car he supposedly made correct in the registry or some crap like that.

The car was also owned by Hurbert Platt at one time. Very nice car but expensive!

Yep, it would appear that the economy is back, but the collectable car market appears to have shifted. I'd put my money on customized vintage cars. Numbers matching doesn't seem to draw the prices as much as in the past.

Nothing special, I think I pay $30 or so ...no digital or pay channels..probably one click up from basic....BJ is on the "Speed channel".....to me that alone makes the extra twenty well spent.

I think one shocking sale was the 69 Z28 that went for $112,000. The guy wearing the yellow jacket said he just had to have it b/c his favorite color was yellow. He was a Corvette collector.

I been in Hawaii long enough to figure this out:

There is a LOT of money in this town!!! Old money AND new money. Whats weird is figuring out WHO has it. Most of the time there are no obvious signs, just regular folk,,,,,,,loaded!

Default Mr DEEP POCKETS

Any one know the buyer was that "kept his hand in the air" for the 4 Callaways? He dropped close to $800 Large in about 20 minutes.

Calling Mr. Mustang!!

Just curious. if someone asked you what that car would have brought at the auction, what would you have told them?

Exclamation

Turk,

As clean as it was, I would have thought roughly $120,000 tops.......$260,000 seemed like a little overboard, the fact that the announcer describing the car stated that Shelby himself approved the all aluminum engine and had it rewritten in to the SAAC registry to be correct is what has me worried. Remember, the folks at Barrett Jackson only know what the owner/seller tells them, if it's baloney (like this statement was) then the buyer is the one who will ultimately pay the price.

Bill S.

PS: It is my understanding (from talking to someone late last night who was there and knows both parties (my CA based 427SC buyer) that the two high bidders of the car have a childhood like rivalry, and more cash between the two fo them where they can push the envelope, as they did on several "surprise price" automobiles this past weekend to the tune of over $2,000,000 spent be each of them bidding against one another..................This story is not over quite yet, and will hit the trade papers eventually......................I just wish that I had them for clients.............

Like all of you, I was absolutely shocked at how much these cars were bringing....in particular the Zephyr.

The BJ Scottsdale event also tends to "set" the prices and overall tone for the upcoming season, so it will be interesting to see if the hysteria holds as the year continues.

With the Euro as strong as it is against the dollar now, I wonder how many of these jewels may actually be heading off to Europe? From appearances, didn't look like many.
