CSX 4173 registration questions
I have more information on this car and am deciding if purchace makes sense. It was completed by XKs Unlimited with a 65 427so that the owner bought himself. Many original parts were found for the build. The quality seems to be there from an equipment standpoint, however, there is one nagging problem I need your advice on.
The car is titled in California as a "65". NOT SB-100. My undrstanding is that this could result in the title being permanently pulled by the DMV. Nothing would be worse than having a cobra and not being able to drive it.
Any information and suggestions would be appreciated.
Gregg

Gregg,
If XK's bought the roller and XK's finished the car DMV WILL NOT reg the car in CA.
There has to be separation between who purchases the car (dealer) and who finishes the car. There are and have been some that have had their reg pulled for this reason. If the above does not apply then use SB100.....they will know or find out it is not a 65.
Good Luck,
curtis

Gregg,
This car has been for sale privately and on ebay several times. Several of the descriptions are erroneous and when a seller needs to degrade another listing, in order to gain an edge, that should raise red flags. If you followed the recent Barrett-Jackson Auction and watched the CSX prices, it should raise another flag questioning why this car hasn't moved in the past. The third flag is the obvious '65' registration and NOT under SB100.
Caveat emptor in big RED letters!

Thanks for the heads up. Car was bought by owner from SAI and just finished by XKs. I will find out how XKs registered the car for the owner tomorrow. If not under SB-100, will check with the DMV to see what the ramifications are of current title.
The language used in the adds on e-bal last time was in bad taste but appears to be the work of RM Cars Online. The owner seems to be highly knowledgable and was very involved in the fab of the car.
I have my BS detector turned to high though. They would only say that the last deal fell through and wouldn't elaborate. Makes you go Hmmmmm!
any more thoughts??

It would also depend on when this registration happened.
SB-100 was only in effect in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
I believe the number 4173 would make that an early enough of a car that it may very well been registered properly before the SB-100 went in to effect.
Time for a title search.

Thanks Turk:
The e-bay auction ended today with no takers. One Brave soul ventured past 80k without details. The RM guy has answers on the title info so I will get the details tomorrow. Hope it is simple. If the title checks out, I will check the car out and have it inspected. Still creepy that it has had no buyers.
As Dan said, Buyer Beware.

Pretty soon cars of this type sold in California , that HAS California registration will be worth more than those that are not.
My personal advice to those in California, contemplating in buying cars that are difficult to register in California....Buy one that IS already registered here.
SB 100 numbers have a tendency to dissapear rather fast for purchases made during the next 10-11 months.
As of January 27th 340 numbers have been used up already.
