Events in June
Does anybody know of any Cobra/Classic car event going on in June? Thanks for any info. I am going tubing on the Guadelupe river for 4 days and would like for my husband to have something to do as well.

Mid America
There is always the Mid-America Shelby and Ford meet in Tulsa on June 11, 12. & 13. Texas Cobra club is usually there in force.

The two seem like very different events. For those of you that have been to both perhaps you can outline the difference for her?

I can not tell you about the one in Tulsa, but I can tell you about the Fling.
Do a search here on DVSF and check out www.dvsf.com (probably not updated for this year yet). You should find LOTS of talk and pictures.
The Double Venom Spring Fling (this year is number four) started over some chocolate cookies. Then there was some competition about who had the best desert and the next thing you know you have a little picnic that turned into hundreds of cars and sponsors with the proceeds going to 'Team Jenny' Cystic Fibrosis. Jenny is Dave Smiths daughter, one of the owners of Factory Five, who has CF and the money is given to CF in her name ($106,000.00 last year).
The "Fling" is a strickly fun, Cobra event. There are no races. Although we usually have a little drag strip, burn out type places and an autocross these are strickly for our amusement not for competition. There are no trophies or awards. There is cruising, some shows, picnics, parties, auctions, LOTS of mixing and that sort of thing. We get together and give the public rides and raise money. The Fling is for Cobras 'only'. I put only in parenthesis simply because there is the occasional Daytona Coupe, GT40, etc.
Basically it is a three day plus long social gathering/party. I wouldn't miss it for the world!
With out being overly long winded I think that sort of sums it up.

I will try and do as well for the Mid-America event as Rick did for DVSF IV.
The Mid-America Ford and Shelby event has something for everyone eg: cruises, road course racing days, drag racing, car show to mention a few. Attendence will be limited to Ford powered vehicles only and will consisit of probably about 300-400 cars of which 1/3 will be original and replica Cobras. Free live bands in the Marriott parking lot, The Texas Cobra group brings several margarita machines and stakes out about a acre in the southwest corner of the Marriott Parking lot. Other groups do the same but the Texas Cobra Club is by far the largest group.
The event will have vendors (Ford Racing, Rousch, Edelbrock, Currie, Goodyear, Shelby, Shell Valley, etc) and a swap meet each day. There are seminars, dinners, awards, and more. Live bands in the parking lot and a Saturday Night cruise to the Brookside area where the main street is blocked off and the police allow the different cars to "clean the dust off their tires if they want" before parking for the public to come and look at your cars. Nothing like two hundred or so cars roaring down the street and half with pseudo open pipes. Lots of fun for the family or without the family. I have heard the new Ford Cobra will be on display this year. The last two years Ford brought their new GT and the new Mustangs. In addition they had an original slabside, FIA, SC as well as some of their other new line vehicles.
TV crews will be here including the Speed Channel and Dennis Gage. In short it will be a lot of fun wheather he cruises, races, or just attends. However, the Marriott usually sells all their 400 rooms so if he wants to attend he should reserve his room asap or he may have to stay at the Hilton or somewhere else. There are plenty of hotels but the Marriott is the place you want to be during the event.

Good Job Clois.......just what he said except for car count. Last year Jim Wicks, the event organizer, said the car count was close to 1200 which includes the racers that just stay out at Hallet and Dragstrip along with those that travel back and forth from the hotel etc.........
A hell of a good time for sure!!!!
