The First ClubCobra Group Project...
A recent thread pointed out an issue that has been around since the start of the forum...
...when a newcomer joins the club, he usually asks some very basic questions. Most newcomers ask the same questions.
These questions, although very important to the newbie, are ones that the old-timers have seen, over and over... and answered.... over and over. Hence, the frequent "...do a search" answer.... which usually doesn't help the newcomer very much.
As a solution, I'd like to muster the troops and ask for volunteers for a project...
I propose we create a new section on the site that would contain an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions).
Here's what it would take...
Pass 1... we all post what we think are the most common questions that have been asked in the last few years by newcomers.
Pass 2... we pick the Top, say, 20 questions from those that are suggested.
Pass 3... we assign each question to a volunteer, who will use common knowledge and go thru the archives to create a page of information on that question.
It can consist of actual answers, links to threads that have discussed it satisfactorily, or external links that help provide more info.
Pass 4... we add the new section to Club Cobra.
Cal Metal and I have discussed this and, if we get it done before the good weather, we think it's a do-able project, with all the talent we have here.
Pass Zero... what are your thoughts on this? Any other suggestions that could make this a valuable resource?
If the response is positive... the next post will be a call for proposed Questions.

Ron,
I think it is a great idea and if I can figure out how to get the search to work for me all the time I would be happy to see such a list and set up for the new people.

Great idea Ron. I also think it would cut down on some of the "runaway" threads we have had in the past.

This is the reason why this site will always be the best.
Constant ideas to keep this site practical and easy. With constant flow of information that we will all benifit from.
If i can help i'm here.
Skippy.

I think it is a great idea Ron. Will it be in a 'forum' where you can not respond so as not to muddy up the content? Are you looking for questions now? You know, the answers to some of these questions will have to be carefully crafted. Some of the more sensitive questions, no matter how factual, no matter how well stated, will cause some strife.
Heck when we are done maybe we can publish our own Cobra Buyer Guide!

Perhaps Brent can track the most common searches, we can group them that way and then put an article together for each. Just a thought

Ron,
Absolutely, unless I get stuck answering the dreaded, "which Cobra is best" question!

When do you want the first list?

I see what you guys are saying....but I think the point Ron wanted to make was instead of spending 5 hours searching through thousands of posts trying to find one key piece of info, they may be able to just click on a link to exactly what they were looking for....
I know some useful information is buried in posts under different titles or subjects, so it may be easier to sort through the forest to get to the trees.....

Yelling? What keyboard command does one use FOR THAT?
John, we could suggest perusal of the FAQ forum and then defer all other questions to some "know it all", you know, like the Shell Answer Man. Any candidates?
