Series 9000 is still available! Wait, doesn't that designation belong to Saab? I just love this new shotgun approach to selling real replica Cobras.

This will stop soon, Shelby's gonna run out of numbers!

(The Series 1s were CSX5000s.)

Ron - CSX4750 up are CAVs? Not really. I thought that the ORIGINAL CAV factory built only a few cars before going away. The later ones must be REPLICAS of South African CAV CSX4000s.

Don't worry Brett & Evan YOU got REAL ones. Really.

There is little doubt IMO that Shelby has cheapened his legacy. Of course, some would opine that he has simply continued his seedy legacy. His good legacy came first. Most people know the legacy of the racer and Cobra developer, while Shelby himself and Frigo and Fenimore and countless other seem intent on permanently and completely replacing the cool legacy with the nasty one.
There is so much crap in the world, I prefer to hold on to the cool legacy when it comes to thinking of the car I've wanted since I was a kid. I always thought it was a Shelby Cobra. I'm not blind, I just choose to remember the good childhood memories, and don't really care about what happened later. This is my choice. Others want to reduce everything to its lowest common denominator. Kinda like Gordon Geeko... "Why do I wreck it? Because it's wreckable". Like the Republicans and the Democrats, it gets old.
Replacing one persona with another. Isn't that why Janet Jackson showed us her booby (to get Michael off the front pages for a while).

We can call the "press release" "SS". Means the same as "BS", just a different source code. (That's for you computer guys)

Those AC/English/Shelby/Alloy Cobras will cost as much as a Ford GT (and I'm not talking MSRP here either)! They'll make a Vegas Alloy Shelby Cobra with 427 S.O. look down right cheap!

I agree with you Brent,,and G.R. as well,I also agree that CS is sort of a shyster/ con artist,but that dosent take away from the fact that he gets things done in flamboyant fashion,I sit and read all the old stories and cant help but have respect for the guy,and anyone else who does what everyone else says isnt possible,with little or nothing,those kind kind of men are what make history,not the little men who sit back on their duff and complain.
Carroll Shelby is what he is,but EVERY word in this or any other forum ,the dream car of everyone here,and every dime made on any thing that says shelby or cobra,for that matter looks like one,is because he was what he was ,and because he got off his ass and made it happen,,my kind of guy,a doer not a talker.I think he deserves to get paid.try building a teplica ford explorer and see where it gets you,and who will win.
I have a Shell Valley in my garage,I know it isnt the best car made,but I am damn proud to own it,when I do get the csx car I will be proud it it too,and it has to be a great investment,it's a no brainer.
I am also proud to be able to trade comments and seek advice form guys who own the real deal,or even the alloy kirkhams and shelbys,thats what this is supposed to be here for ,has any one noticed that the guys with the high end cars here tend to be the last ones to say anything negative ? while the owners of lessor cars,or owners of another make that cost nearly the same as the cav shelby is supposed it,well,,it is bash,bash,bash,,but Brent,you have the right idea,,I need to learn not to care,,Tim

A Cobra built by AC is an exciting thing. However, I think they will be cost prohibitive and given CS's tendency towards short relationships I am not expecting much. We will just wait and see!

All,

This post is not intended to insult or disrupt Cobra enthusiast or replica owners that visit the site but rather a brief explanation of why Shelby is offering multiple models of authentic (not original) 289 and 427 Shelby Cobra component vehicles.

Unlike any replica builder the Shelby Cobra component vehicle has drawn a premium price point since its conception back in 1996 in both composite and aluminum bodied configuration.

Our goal for 2004 was and is to produce composite bodied Cobra component vehicles at a price that is affordable to the masses by utilizing international resources while maintaining the build of the aluminum bodied (Kirkham supplied body & frame) Cobra component vehicles at a mid stream premium price point (“complete roller w/ paint” less engine and transmission at approx. $87,000).

The third option that has become available in the form of the aluminum bodied Shelby AC Cobra component vehicle has been in the works for several months. This product is not to be represented as an original Shelby AC Cobra but rather an authentic Cobra built by utilizing the resources of Shelby and AC. This model is being produced in limited quantity for customers that care to step up to the top level of the Cobra component vehicle market. As for the product being built from original tooling I am forced to clarify a well known fact in the UK in that multiple sets of original tooling were utilized by AC and their outside resources in order to produce the aluminum bodies back in the 60’s. AC UK has original sets of 289 (MKII) and 427 (MKIII) tooling at the Frimley facility and they are utilizing them for the production of the bodies on the above mentioned vehicles. The targeted MSRP on all models of these vehicles, less engine and transmission, is $145,000 FOB Las Vegas. Final pricing will be announced within the next three weeks but I must say that it looks like we will hit or be under our target at this time.

Shelby is not attempting to flood the market with multiple models or model numbers, we want to get authentic Cobras built to the original configuration in the hands of enthusiast and quite simply need to separate and call out the models for historic (e.g. SAAC Registry) and resale purposes in order to be fair to all our customers.

Although we have run into setbacks on the production and delivery of the composite CSX4000 (designated as CSX4750 and higher) $40K units we are and will continue to use all resources at our disposal in order to deliver the vehicles to the quality demanded and as quickly as possible. If you are a customer with a deposit on one of our $40K units and wish to have your deposit refunded please contact me through e-mail so we can discuss the details. SAI has not and will not hold customers with deposits hostage simply because they were willing to step up and get in line for a product that has run into production delays.

I agree the idea of a Shelby Cobra made with AC and the original tooling is an appealing concept. But, I'm curious, and this is a totally straight question, because I'm interested in everyone's opinion.

Do you think there is a market for a new $145K roller Shelby/AC Cobra?

I'm not convinced they are using original tooling. The Jim Price issue is a concern. Didn't he buy all the tooling and rights? Isn't he in litigation with Lubinsky over this issue? Hmmm.

At near $200K for a finished car the market will be limited I would think. Getting close to the point of buying an original at that number.

To me its not worth it because in the end they are all authentic Shelbys but not original. To someone else it may be though. For me, the fact my car is a Shelby Cobra is enough. I really don't care about the AC name. If it came from Shelby thats all that matters.

All true, and some people also paid mega bucks for Hemi 'Cudas, Camaros, and even 140K for a Shelby Mustang GT-350 clone at the recent B-J auction.

But, I was primarily interested in whether people think there will be enough demand at that price to keep the production line moving. It's competing directly with cars like the Ford GT-40 and probably targeted at the same market. I understand why people would pay that much and more for an original Cobra, but a new one?
