My Excellent Kirkham Adventure
This past weekend, I took delivery of my Kirkham 427 in Provo. This was the realization of a dream that I have had since I was in College and had to raid the washer for enough loose change to buy Kit Car Magazine.
I documented the trip with hundreds of photos, and I thought that some of the Club Cobra members would enjoy just a taste of the excitement that I experienced. If you would like, take a look at my gallery. I posted a series of photos in chronological order which document my journey to Provo, the delivery of the car, and the trip back home.
The car is an absolute work of art, and the more I stare at it, the happier I am. I opted for the stainless steel frame and every bit of billet I could get. As you will see, I ordered in a set of vintage "billboard" tires, but I also had them mount a set of radials on an extra set of wheels so that I can swith off if the vintage tires drive a little too, well, vintage.
I spent the entire day at Kirkham's shop, while Matt and other members of the Kirkham staff instructed me about the car. I met Steve Sunshine while I was there, and was happy to make his aquaintance. You meet some of the nicest people in this community!
A special thanks to David, Thomas, Steve, Matt, Mary, and all of the gang at Kirkham. I cannot say enough about the quality of the people and the jaw dropping quality of the cars they produce. You owe it to yourself to see one of thier cars in person.
Hope you enjoy the photos -- I sure enjoyed taking them.

Great photos! I especially love the "First sight" photo with the three cars in various stages of completion, the huge banners hanging proudly, and the amazing reflected light bouncing off your car.
I'm jealous !
Enjoy the rest of the build.

Nice ride. It's too bad you can't get the "billboard" tires in a radial reproduction; they have got to be the best looking tire on a Cobra. I'm running bias ply wide whites on my '57 Bird right now, but will definately go to the radial reproduction ones once they wear out.

Wow. Congratulations on a great choice and a terrific looking car. When you have time be sure to post some pictures of the engine and that spectacular frame.
Enjoy.

Thanks for the comments -- when I woke up this morning I went to the garage to confirm that it was reality. I'm happy to report that it really did happen and that the car did not vanish overnight.
Dsprint2000- I wish I had racedeck -- what you see are the rubberized interlocking mats that Costco sells. Racedeck is on my list.

Just looked at your pics again. I thought that Kirkham was now cutting out the side pipe holes

WOW! Pretty awesome! I'll be right there with you next month. Did you get only the basic sanding?
Quentin Z - The cutouts are an option, but they will only do it if you purchase the side pipes from them.
Catch ya later

Y U YELLA,
The sanding was done in Poland -- I will perform the final sanding myself. In fact, I bought the supplies today and I have an evening of sanding waiting for me at home. I'll put in a tape of Gumball Rally and have at it.

W. Mitty,
Congratulation on seeing your dream happen.
I'll add another to my list of people who I have car envy.
Please let us know how many times you sit in it and make car noises!

Patbuckley --
I'm afraid that if I waited to go out to dinner until I was done sanding, I would probably starve before I got the hood scoop finished. I anticipate that I will be done sanding sometime next year

By the way guys, if you plan on picking the car up in person like I did, make sure that you are prepared to do one of three things: 1) pay Utah sales tax, 2) Present a Tax Resale #, or 3) show that you are a licensed transporter. As always, when dealing with the government, the devil is in the details. All things considered, it's probabl a lot easier to simply have the car shipped.
