What was the last race you lost?
Either on the track, drag strip, or just a quick blast from the lights, what was the last race you lost, and to what?
I thought this might be interesting, because you always hear about beating other cars, but I was wondering what has beat you in a race?

2003 Mustang Cobra. He got on the freeway behind me; I thought he wanted to "play", but seemed that he had no intention to race at all. All of a sudden he passes me, rather quickly I might add, and the race was on!!! We have a fairly new, smooth, low-traffic-level freeway ahead of us, and for the life of me my Cobra could not catch that Mustang!!! I hope it was the aerodynamics!!! lol !!!

I'm gonna get kicked off of here for this but you asked for the last race I had. This past Monday morning I was in a good mood what with the sun showing up. I was in my Peterbilt (550hp cat/18 spd trans) just picked up 24 tons of asphalt. I came up to a red light where a pretty yellow Kenworth that left the asphalt plant just before me had been stopped. I saw him glance over at me & heard him start to spool up the turbos..as did I, the light dropped & I popped the clutch at 2100rpm(redline) I got him by a nose for 4 gears and then he went by me like I was in reverse. I kept my foot thru the grille hoping he would miss a gear but no such luck. After 10 hair-raising powershifts to 50mph we stopped at the next light where the driver informed me he was running a 600hp cat motor that he paid the dealer to turn up - I think he said to 2700ft/lbs of torque AND he had an autoshift transmission- so much for him missing a gear. I think this will be the slowest race anyone will post here. If not, it was definetly the heaviest- two vehicles weighing in at 75,000+lbs apiece and we never even broke the speed limit.

Well I never use the clutch during any gearshifts except for starting out, but during times of abusive behavior like that I lift off the throttle just a bit to get the jake brake to burp. It does take a combination of quick hand/foot timing and sheer stupidity but yes powershifting these things are fun! Are you familiar with the Eaton/Fuller Super 18spd trans?

To a state patrolman in my wifes Mini Cooper S early last fall---first moving violation in 30 yrs--dammit
Drag Race--the last one I ran with my Z-28 to a AM AMX in the finals in the class
Street race---in my stock '82 Turbo Z to my brother in his '88 Mazda RX-7 turbo convertible , pro-built by a Mazda shop in CA--looked like a class "c" IMSA when he got it back----kicked my butt but good--real bummer to lose to your youngest bro(10yrs)
Never raced a Cobra
PS--my brother did get a ticket from the CSP--clocked at 85 in a 25 mph marked S curve zone in Big Thompson Canyon(Road goes from Loveland to Estes Park CO)---cost him close to $500 in fines, attend a CSP "Highway Safety course" and 24 hrs of community service and one point left on his license for 2 yrs--if he sneezed wrong he could lose his DL for a min. of 2yrs.
The SP officer told his girlfriend she was to drive, follwed them all the way out of the canyon into Loveland--I rib him about that every time we get together

Maxrpm,
I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that transmission. I've never driven that big of a truck.

MC-- be very wary of BT--it is a very well maintained hiway--and today heavily patrolled---more twistys I think on that road than most any other in CO--I'm a native btw--
In the 60's-70's before "the flood" and even into the 80's after it was rebuilt it was a dynamite drive in a sports car or well set-up
street car---I went up the canyon last May for the first time since 88-we saw 6 CSP cars between Loveland and Estes ---I was thinking how much fun it would be to run a Cobra instead of a 4-door sedan

Nathan, just for future reference, the next time you come up behind a pair of them big shiny slow trucks hogging the two right lanes twisting & jumping and sorta really going nowhere fast just think, theres two bored racing enthusiasts in there jumping outta their seats slamming gears in the most important race ever...well, for the moment.

Last fall I lost to my father, he was in his 01 Mallet corvette 700+ w/mini tub and narrowed rear end. I lost by about a car length, and that was before the NOS system I have since installed.
Oh father I have something to show you!!

A Z06 Corvette and a 03 Mustang Cobra. From some reason they wouldn't stop for my blue lights .. and thus, totally left me and my ol' CVPI in the dust.

Spoony,
When I first read your post, I thought you said that you lost your father last fall, and I was about to reply how sorry I was for you. Then I reread that you lost TO your father, and I still want to say how sorry I am for you.

Thanks again for the detailed report.
There must be a few new Crispy Cream's in that area.
We'll be on the lookout...

Been a while since I did anything stupid, but I lost to a Toyota Corrola in my Daytona (the Dodge kind, not the Coupe kind) that had 167k miles on it and was worn out enough I couldn't park it on a hill. Not that I haven't done anything silly since, I just hadn't lost.
Oh, I forgot. I lost to a Lenginfelter (sp?) Z28 with the Cobra when it only had 75 miles on it and I didn't want to run it hard. Would have been close, but I missed 2nd and 3rd. We went at it again later. Had him by the top of first and we backed off.
