...at least it's a straight-forward auction, not for some bogus-place-in-line.

The auction is for how much over MSRP that you will buy their only car for.

What a country, eh?

Interesting they use the "reserve price" option for this! If they can't make enough over MSRP they retract. Incredible!

The Free Enterprise sysem at its best. Initially, I would guess it will take at least $30K over list price to secure a GT.

I have heard that a few dealers that expect to get a car have already had offers ranging from 30k to 50k over MSRP...... Do not know first hand if this is true, but I certainly can beleive it............

I guess if you have to be the first on the block....Historically, no matter what new car came out in the last 20 years or so, a heavy premium for the first few has always proven to be a loosing proposition for the buyer.
I myself had the opportunity to own one of the first 1992 Dodge Vipers for the $52,500 sticker price. After 300 miles, I was begged to sell the car by someone offering me $97,500 because Barrett was bringing $100K plus commission. Like I said, bad for the buyer but I guess good for the seller. The Ford GT will be good for the seller.
