Is the restriction the small air filter you are forced to use by the turkey pan or the scoop?

It is definitely because of the turkey pan, not the scoop!
I have had the Turkey pan off my engine, and without it I can put a 14 inch drop down air cleaner that flows over 1000 cfm with no interference to the hood or scoop. I just hated the way it looked. I also had a ram-box fitted to my car at one time and it looked much better, but i did not like the quality of the ram-box chrome finish at that time, so i abandoned the idea, but I plan on re-visiting this idea when I put on the new high flow side pipes, hopefully this year. I did put some pics in another thread at that time on this forum I believe.

Here is one of the threads. I did try and post pics, but the size restrictions were to small. I will try to post them again.
If any one wants some pics of my trial fit, send me an email to davids2toys@charter.net
click here for link Has anyone considered something like this for an air cleaner?

Went through a frustrating time trying to get enough air into my 460",with a stock hood and scoop impossible! Especially after talking with K&N.My solution bought another hood and a Harwood scoop with an opening that best matched the Cobra's but a lot more area.Cut it down grafted it to new hood, used a drop base pan with 3"x14" and extreme top.The Edelbrock Performer RPM set the K&N perfectly inside the scoop, now the 460 can get all the air it can inhale through a Dan Davinci 1000cfm dbl pmp. What a difference driving the car since starting with the Stellings.
