Pusher fans install ?????
Does anybody have any closeup pictures of their twin pusher fans in the car? I'd like to see how they are mounted to the side walls as well as the position of the motors. When seen from the front, do you see the blades first or motors first? Two cross brackets or one? Also what size fuse do you use to protect the circuit?
Would also like to see how front hoop bumper connects to overriders, do they mount to the sides of the overriders or behind them? (since you have the camera out) Thanks in advance. Trueoo7 |
I know the front bumper bolts to the inside of the overriders....kind of low budget, but that's the way they are.

You can take a look at my picture gallery to see if you get the information you need. I custom made my side mounting brackets but the 2 cross bars and the mounting of the motors/fan blades is as received by Finish Line.

I bought the kit from Finish Line, but made my own mounting hardware. See the picture below. The mounting bar is steel stock I purchased from Home Depot (1" I think). The mounting brackets are made from angle brackets and a short sleeve made also from steel stock from Home Depot and a flat piece of steel stock on the ends. The sleeve is the next size up steel stock. I wrapped the end of the mounting bar with some red gasket material that I purchased from Sears. With the gasket material on the end of the bar, it is just the right thickness to slip into the sleeve. The brackets that attach the fans to the bar were fashioned from an angle bracket that is used for building decks. It had a small hole in one side of the "L" that I drilled larger to allow the spindle of the motor to fit through. I did a little trimming on the bracket so that it did not show from the front. I polished it all up and gave it a coat of POR-15 clear coat.

I have read that pusher fans restrict too much ariflow to the radiator and should not be installed, opinions, ideas?

The only thing I've heard is that you don't want to use both a pusher and puller at the same time as it could create "turbulance" and make your airflow go around the radiator instead of through it.

Thanks for the photos that really helps alot. Couple of questions...How far would you say the fans are from the radiator? 1"-2" ??? I'm not sure why you used the red gasket material. Was that to take up any slack inside the larger tube because it looks like you bolted the brackets to the cross bar which would have tightened them up anyway? Also what size fuse did you use to protect the circuit? The POR 15 that you used....did that come in a spray can and did you spray it on the motors too? Question for anybody: Does a hoop bumper come with some sort of side brackets already on it, and then you have to adapt that to the overriders? Thanks again Trueoo7 |

To space the fans from the radiator I put about four layers of corrugated cardboard, so they are quite close ... maybe a half inch or so. The gasket material did just take up the slack, but it did make it easier to install the whole setup with the brackets tight on the mounting bar. I cut the mounting bar a little shorter than the width from sidewall to sidewall, that way I could slide the brackets a little to assure a proper fit. A little WD40 provided the lubrication. My front fans are wired to the same circuit as the puller fan. ERA's wiring harness splits to allow that. I did not put the front fans on a separate fuse. Finish Line provided one. I'll take a look tonight to see if I can find it. The POR product was a brush on product, "Glisten PC" I think. I applied it to the mounting hardware, fans and motor. So far I have not noticed any problems as a result of having the front fans, or running them at the same time as the puller fan. I cruise at about 180 and when idling get up around 190. The fans kick in at around 180 and seem to work well. |

Never been an issue with flow blockage even on 90 degree days (puller on & pushers off). When in stop/go traffic pushers "on" drops the radiator temp right away. A side benefit is they slice and dice bugs before getting into the radiator.:LOL: |

Slow down, these things take time. I just got back from Home Depot (it was crowded) and hope to install them this weekend. :LOL::LOL:
Yes I did mount them but I had some issues. I got the fans mounted but not before putting on a screen to help protect the radiator. Unfortunately I mounted them too close and being the fans are aluminum, they would bend in the wind and as they spun they would rub against the screen which caused a hole. I think the whole bracket might be a little loose too so I need to fix that. I still have the front bumper but I never mounted it. I have stainless steel over riders and the thought of trying to accurately drill mounting holes through them without a press is a little daunting. Good news is, I now have a 4 post lift so it will be easier to fix. Check back in 16 years, hopefully by then I should have them mounted. **) |
Everyone has a different experience so here's mine. I've never had a pusher fan work as well as a puller, either on my Cobra replica or my circle track cars. To cool my Cobra (429 SCJ engine) I had to go with an aluminum cross flow radiator, twin electric puller fans with shroud, and a Dakota Digital fan controller. IMHO if anyone can cool a big-inch, big horsepower engine with pusher fans, you're really lucky.
