Thumbs up Best Cobra Gas

I use Mobil Synergy 8000 98 octane.
I find the Cobra runs best on this fuel.
Cheers,
Bryan

But seriously folks, my engine sports 10.5:1 compression, and while it runs OK on readily available 91 octane, I would love to be able to conveniently find some 92 octane, without having to drive up to Sears Point (for 92 octane Union 76). Anyone know of anything between San Jose and San Francisco? Rich

I've got 10.2 to 1 and I do see a noticable difference when I run Union 76 Performance 100 fuel. But, at $3.95 a gallon locally it gets a little expensive to use it as general purpose fuel. I'm in Las Vegas. I don't know if its available in your location. Funny thing, Performance 100 was $4.00 a gallon before gas prices skyrocketed.

Question

If you can't find the higher octane gas at the pump, do you add an octane booster to your fill-ups?

Slither,

Go to your local refinery outlet and get a barrel of racing gas. Then mix it with your pump gas in whatever ratio you like. I have been having them deliver a couple of 55 gallon barrels a year to me for the past 7 years and it works great. We can only get 91 octane which is actually closer to 86.

I'll be heading right through Knoxville on my way back to Illinois from SC. I may have to stop and buy the biggest gas can I can find and take some of that home with me! The gas in Illinois has "corn" in it.........not good for high HP engines (or rubber hoses for that matter). Plus it cost more to make! They fooled us by saying that ethanol would be cheap because it's made out of corn.......but they failed to tell everyone it would cost more to produce and actually INCREASE the cost per gal to the consumer.

I'm fortunate to have a local bulk petroleum/lubricants dealer (Nickey Petroleum) about 4 miles from my house. I take a five gallon can to them and fill-it with Sunoco 110 racing fuel. I then mix 5 gallons of that stuff with approx. 12 gallons of the 91 octane at the pump, yielding a 95-96 "mix" that is plenty stout and the added bonus is that it smells great!. I pay about $5.00/gallon for the 110, but I'd probably spend close to that in decent octane boosters to yield the same octane.

Hi all

Synergy 8000 is possibly the best we can get here ex Mobil refinery at all Mobil fuel outlets.

Shell Optimax and BP Ultima are both ex the Geelong Refinery and both without additives at 96 RON. (Run Octane Number)

So I guess at $1.05 a litre its not that bad. Shell tell us motorists that the more expensive Shell Optimax actually improves economy.

Cheers

Bernie
