Two big skid marks from the rear is certainly more indicative of a trans lockup than a suspension failure. All though trans could have led to a suspension problem.
Unlikely suspension alone would result in BOTH back wheels locking up. While possible, not probable.
Cam back aerodynamics might have indeed been a problem, but again, those two black marks from the rear clearly testify to a "lock up" condition of some kind.

From what I have read, Miles was not a popular guy with the crews and others. Perhaps because he was "sure" his way was the best, perhaps because he was known to hold up testing untill he had taken his little stove out of his street car and brewed a "cuppa" tea before going to work.
Sometimes people who are self-assured are seen as "arrogant" and that may be why he was not well liked, or possibly his personality was such that you could not get close to him and others saw it as "distance" or "arrogance".
Again, this is based on several different articles and interviews I have read. I never met Miles so I would defer to someone who has.
As Cal says, the tranny is the chief suspect in the crash, however the investigation also revealed weakness in the chassis riveting/bonding that was changed in further MK IV cars.

I'm betting that this is the case. He was a man that got things done. I'll bet there are folks who would call Jackie Stewart arrogant. I'll bet there are folks who would call a number of us here (me included) as arrogant. Then there is Donald Trump ... now HE is arrogant.

The profiles I have seen of Jet Fighter pilots leave me with the impression there ALL arrogant. And yet you KNOW there the best of the best. At that level of performance and "risk" to your life you HAVE to be incredibly secure in your decision making. In your mind you ARE the best, bar none. No other pilot is as "good" as you.
I see that same trait in a lot of race car drivers too. A study showed the top race car drivers all have ONE thing in common. An extraordinary desire to "win", a firecely competitve spirit, far beyond what any reasonable person would consider "normal".
No doubt there are times when there pit crew are just fed up with those a holes.

the yellow car is my GT40NA.
Are they new?
yes, GT40NA is a new manufacturer in Indiana. They are not however, "new" to fast cars, as most of the team has extensive professional racing experience. The cars are being assembled in an Indy car race shop by Indy/Cahmp car techs and engineers.
Are they another South Africa Deal?
no, they are be assembled right here in the USA, at a state of the art Indy car racecar facility. They can manufacture nerly everything on site, and even have a wind tunnel available for developing aerodynamic aids.
Are they the new CAV?
no, not connected with CAV.
Does CAV still exist?
Are they a SPF Dealer or supplier?
no, are not a SPF dealer or any other cobra replicas.
Is there such a huge market for the replication?
well, if you want a handuilt, carbon fiber bodied, turnkey supercar, we definately have something to offer you.
Hmmmmmmmm...........
I think that should cover it.

Well,
the first production run of cars are being assembled at Derrick Walker Racing.
Here is a link with pics of the facilty.
http://www.walkerracing.com/
The first few cars (including mine) are scheduled to be there on display, in May, during Indy 500 week.
If you see the shop, the technology, and caliber of what is built there every day,,,,,and don't think it indeed is a "state of the art" facility,,,,,,,
then you are very hard to impress.
The point I was originally trying to make with my , "state of the art" description, is that these cars aren't being assembled in some guys back yard, who's day job is flipping burgers.
The GT40NA is being designed, manufactured, assembled, and set up by the very same team that consturct the 200plus mph racecars everyday.
The combination of building a handcrafted street car,
using the modern racing car materials, techniques, and experience, is an idea that I believe will work quite well.

Actually some of the old time GREAT race cars at Indy WERE assembled in some guys back yard. The automotive "talent" in that neck of the woods is legendary.

cars are available as turnkey units only.
The yellow car I have, at the moment is available for $115k.
This car has the leather seat option, carbon console, and the satellite stereo(which is pretty useless)
It is an "early production" car, as it is #4 and does not yet have a ZF gearbox, like the next ones will. (the ZFs have been tough to get a good source of them)
If the car does sell before the Indy 500, I will provide free transport of it to the factory for the event in May,,,,,
so that the new owner can have their car on display there and take the factory tour, meet the team & racers involved with the project.
The new cars will start at $125k, and will have either a ZF box or a custom made gearbox with hewland guts. (depending on what the engineers suggest, and how many ZF boxes they can acquire.)
Designing and tooling up to manufacture their own gearbox has already been discussed, if necassary.
I do not intend to get too involved in the discussion of the pricing, as I do not wish to make it appear as my posts are an "ad" for GT40NA. My goal is to inform and answer questions to the best of my knowledge.

also forgot to mention that each car will come with it's own dyno sheet, as the engines/gearboxes are all to be test run pprior to delivery.

Could you compare this car to the others that are available such as the ERA and the CAV as far as chassis originality and why you feel this car is possibly superior to the others. Not to make the thread look like a bashing but since the GT40 is a complex car and few replica's are out there as opposed to the Cobra, I think it would help all understand more about the car.

There will be a time and place for an "Ad" somewhere in the future, but not now.
This IS a gathering of the clan seeking information on a new product. You have the "floor", so spill the beans my man!

Since this is a finished ,running car(?),not a "kit", how on earth is it titled and registered. Does it pass OBD11? Crash tests?, etc. Price seems a scosh high, but maybe there is a market. SPF GT-40 should come in at $50K less moter /trans, and the new Ford GT is only S139K
