Can't get a wheel off, any suggestions?
I've pounded on the right rear spinner with a 3 lb hammer, slagged the thing down with PB Blaster, but that puppy won't budge. Anybody have any ideas? My avenue of last resort will be a 2' long piece of 2x4 and a 10 pound sledge.

This is going to sound silly but it worked for me.
Take the center cap off the spinner, load about 4 ice cubes into the hole and hold them there as they melt. Once the inside of the hub is good and cold, give the spinner a good smack with your lead hammer.

Jim,
Is your spinner stainless steel or alloy. If it's stainless, try applying some heat via butane or lightly with MAPP. Before you heat the area, apply some Break Free. Do not use this technique if it's alloy or you'll see the wings disappear.

Hate to insult your intelligence but are you spinning them the right way (trying to). They should rotate off the same direction as the tire moves forward. Happy slamming!

Along the same line as Brian's and Dan's (and Tony's) posts: Even an alloy spinner can stand some heat. A CO2 fire extinguisher is a good source of instant cold, as is dry ice. Heat the spinner gently until it's too hot to touch quickly, then give it a shot inside the hub with a CO2 fire extinguisher or apply some dry ice and rotate the wheel to cool it evenly. A few taps should loosen the spinner...assuming you're hitting it in the right direction.  |

Once it's off apply a light coat of 'never- seez' to the contact face of the spinner and the threads.

Naw...put a THICK coat of anti-seaze on, go for a drive, and have your wife walk up to you before you get out of the car and ask you if you think you put enough of that "stuff" on.
Then spend several hours getting it off the wheels and side of the car. 
P.S. Only do this once.

Hey Jim:
It's deja vu all over again. Be sure you're hitting it in the correct direction. The hubs may be on the wrong side of the car. If you are going in the correct direction hit the spinner, rotate 120 degrees, hit the spinner, repeat. when putting them back on remember, the spinners do not have to be super duper tight. The pins take the torque load. Use safety wire!!!.

Get the tool that Cobra Dan suggested ..... it has a 1" hole in the end of it..... then go get a 5-6' foot long 1" X .250"wall thick tube of chromally tubing......
Have someone stand on the brake pedal and then lean on the 1" tubing....... It will come off.... just takes alot of power.... and this tool is the best way of removing the spinners....
Let us know when you get it broke loose....
BTW then get a small version of the 5'-6' foot bar (about 2'-3') to install the spinners....

Jim,
Just guessing on my part but I am assuming that you got the other rear wheel off ok. Did you see anything inside the spinner on it? I once knew a guy that put locktite in his so they wouldn't come loose while driving. They didn't. And if you got the other one off ok, then it stands to reason that you are trying to turn this one the correct direction. The tool is about as handy a thing as I have seen any of the guys that have spinners around here have. Easy to use and they check the torque every time they stop.

This might sound silly, but I had a spin off stick once, and bits of 4x2 and mallets didnt help. The thing that worked in the end was hitting it the other way to tighten it slightly, then undo it. It was easy then!

Been there, done that. Problem is not overtightening, it's that aluminum vs aluminum will cause the spinner to weld to the wheel over time.
