Default What colour blue is this!

Hi all

My Cobra is having it's paint job next week and I still havn't decided on the colour (sorry color!).

I am looking for an original paint scheme, and like the look of the SC model on the front cover of Rinsey Mills's 'Original AC Ace & Cobra' book, and also featured on page 84.

I appreciate that the colour is probably a one-off mix, but does any one know an approximate matching modern paint code?

I could up-load a scanned image of the book, but I think the shadding would alter too much in converting/uploading.

Thanks

Mark - that would probably be "a" guardsman blue. Best match I could find in the UK (and a production paint that is easily repeatable) is (gulp) a Volvo metallic blue from the '70's. Paul at Paul's Motors in Hinckley knows the paint code - he is spraying another Crendon in the same colour right now. Email me for his 'phone number if you want.

I tried all sorts of matches from ancient paint codes before settling for this. It is the kind of "old" metallic that looks different in the shade/under the sun. Just like an "old" metallic should.
For pics see my gallery here, or view my car at Stoneleigh, if you can wait that long.

Mark:

The color of the car on the cover of Mills' AC Ace & Cobra is '66 Ford Sapphire Blue. It was a Thunderbird-only color for that one year, and was also used on the '66 Shelbys when a buyer specified blue. There were a handful of 427 Cobras originally painted this color, and all were S/C's, mainly as a result of these cars remaining unsold/ unpainted until well into 1966, when the paint - color code G - first became available.

Question PPG - Guardsman Blue ???

Mark

Know that 'Guardsman blue' is still available if you find this is actually the colour.

Check out - hey'littlecobra - on the Texas and Australian forums.

They have put gallery pictures of their "Guardsman blue' Cobra both inside the garage under lights and outside in the sunlight.

I asked them the colour and they kindly confirmed it was 'Guardsman blue'.

PPG have it listed and the code - universal coding/mix

I have the code at work.

If you want it email me at

kni-time@bigpond

I will send the code back via email.

Also Superformance use the 'Guardsman blue' on their cars. The SPF agent there in the UK may be kind enough to give it to you.

Additionally the PPG agent there will help???.

Cheers

Bernie

Thanks for the replys guys.

I think the 70s Volvo colour is the one. I've seen Wilf's car in the flesh and it looks awesome.

Wilf you have mail.

Hi Bernie

I am told that the colour is Volvo 'Dark Blue', paint code 406.

Hope this helps.
