Gary brings up a good point. If the State Attorney identified 613 vehicles and 150 (25%) were "Cobra" related, what are the other 75%? My guess.....lots of street rods.

When I spoke with Morgester about the complaint against TU last spring, I asked him whether the FBI was involved (being that this was a transaction that crossed state boundaries). He said that the FBI is fully aware of CA's investigation, and was taking a "wait and see" approach. It is very clear to all involved in these investigations that TU (and other titling services) "sold titles" to owners in states other than CA.

A little inside information on this: someone in the Cal DMV was taking money, probably from the entities noted within this thread, to title Cobra's as, for example, 1965 Ford's. He/She was caught and all those registrations are now subject to review and if you don't get with the program, turn in your plates, etc. they will take your Cobra. Unless, you've sold your Cobra to, for example, someone in another state.

With that said, the Cal Cobra owners that are involved paid the money to make the registration happen, so it was a risk to save money and that risk has now gone south.

Experts are plentifull when none are needed. Hey Vegan, you don't have a clue what you are talking about.

I sold my car long before I was contacted by DMV. I sold it to out of state.
NO, I did NOT use the Titles Unlimited.

Seling your car to out of state at this pooint may easily be looked upon as evasion.

No it did not stop the state asking me to contact the person I sold it to, and ask me to ask him to retuin the title and the registration for a car I had sold two or more years ago.

On this subject where there is so much is at stake, it would be helpful, if you spoke from experience rather than blowing it out you butt and speculating.

This is a serious issue. If you don't have first hand information keep it to your self, if you can enlighten a bunch of people sitting on pibn needles, speak up.

Otherwise, hush!

And we thought it was hard to get cars registered over here.

Engineers reports etc. etc.

next years SB100 numbers will be going fast. Of those gettting the revocation notices, can they apply for SB100 next year, or were those the 100 numbers they set a side for this year?

Here's my plan for the next build:
I'll buy a pre-'73 car, something with a short wheelbase. Then I'll start customizing it. You know, add a new engine, maybe some custom body panels, a new dash... By the time I'm done it'll probably just have that part of the original car with the VIN. And it will look like one of those, you know, snake-car thingys. No, it's not a kit car, just a highly modified xxx.

TURK,
THE THING THAT BOTHERED ME THE MOST ON THE ATTORNEY GENERALS RELEASE WAS THE ARREST WARRANTS ISSUED, FOR THE FOUR CALIFORNIANS, IN PARTICULAR CRAIG HILL. HERES A MAN WHO HAS HELPED US ALL IN SOME WAY, A GIVER, NOT A TAKER. NOW THE STATE COMES IN, AND "TRIES" TO DISCREDIT HIS REPUTATION. WHEN A PERSON ASK FOR ADVICE OR DIRECTION HE HAS TWO CHOICES, TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT. IM SURE IM MISSING SOMETHING HERE, BUT THE OWNERS HAD CHOICES BASED ON THESE FOUR PEOPLES ADVICE AND KNEW WHAT THEY WERE GETTING INTO ANY WHY. KIND OF LIKE THE VINTAGE RACER WHO TELLS THE ENGINE BUILDER TO PUT IN A STROKER, GETS CAUGHT FOR TO MANY CUBIC INCHES AND BLAMES THE BUILDER FOR BEING DISQUALIFIED!!

Terry,
Agreed. This State does not care about what happens to Craig's reputation, or wheteher we have a way of driving our Hot Rods, Cobras, or kit Cars.

They want the money and would be perfectly happy if they were all impounded.

I have lived many places, I don't know any other state where the DMV is a force onto itself, rather than a agency doing the people's will. Here, backed by many anti-car pro DMV regulators, elected officials, they bask in their powers to make the lives of car lovers living HELL.
