Grapes of Wroth revisited
Queensland Raceway at Willowbank near Brisbane was the place to be over the Easter weekend for Queensland's annual PowerCruise bunfight. The event included drifting, 1/8th mile drags, dyno pulls and just plain good fun out on the circuit for the record 700 entrants.
Scott Hampson (OZVENOM) impersonated the poor folks in Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wroth" when he arrived at the circuit with his Cobra loaded down with a marquee, gas barbeque, sleeping gear, several containers of extra fuel, enough food and cool drinks to feed an army, and enough tools to replace my expected blower belt breakages and other unhoped for mechanical damage.
Here's a shot of Scott halfway through his reload at the conclusion of the event. The beer can artwork on the chain wire fence signifies where our loyalties lay as opposed to the hordes of ricer GTRs who turned up for the dyno pull and drifting events.
Mate, I always knew we'd find a use for that roll cage one day !
