Thumbs up Great Afternoon Run

Living in the Central San Joaquin Valley of California affords us the opportunity to go several directions on short notice, today John Peterson and I checked the somewhat dodgy weather crossed our fingers and headed towards the Sierra Nevada Foothill towns of Knights Ferry & Sonora for a little lunch and to burn some gas. http://homepage.mac.com/juggle5/phot...sFerryNov2001/ The town is very small and rich with history and is situated on the Stanislaus River which has great trout fishing. John suggested we stop at the 50's Roadhouse Restaurant which is just off of the hiway a short distance, it seemed to be popular to some of the locals as well as some who were traveling like us. We pulled up in our Cobra's and there were 2 parking spots right in front, we couldn't have planned it any better. As we pulled up, the few patrons raised up out of their seats to peek out the window and see what was making "All that noise". The waitress quized us and asked what kind of cars they were while she took our orders. After lunch it was off again further up Hiway 108 to Sonora.http://www.sonoraca.com/ This is one of my favorite towns in the Motherlode Area. The downtown area is not unlike many others but there are many little shops, and stores that make it fun to just walk the streets. There is quite a bit of elevation change in the downtown area that adds to the novelty of the town. We walked around a bit and then decided we better head back as we both had some yard duties we had to get done at home. For something on short notice and without a lot of planning this is a good destination point if you are within 100 miles. There is a good choice of lodging and food throughout the entire area if you want to make a weekend out of it. And for those coming from Sacramento or Fresno area you can run through the Foothills to get there.

Great Drive

Rick

Thanks John.
