Wayne,
Along the same lines as your snotty dressed guys. A few years ago I took my car to a charity event in the park and some woman?? came up and started yelling at me for having that piece of **** among the real cars. She really made a scene and several people told her to shut up. She got even louder abut those dam kit cars ruining every car show around. After she got through with telling me what an ass I was I decided to hunt her husband up and inform him that if she came back over to my car he would need to make a missing persons report. But after seeing their car I just couldn't bring myself to say anything. It was a KIT fiberglass, badly built 32 Ford. The front fenders didn't even match as they were different lengths. Also had two different types of wheels and I don't think any of the four tires were the same. He seemed like a decent person and I just asked him how long it took to build his car and he told me just over 4 months.

Some people don't even respect their own cars much less anybody elses. The other day I am at the store and I watch a women place two paper bags full or groceries on the hood of her new Lincoln Navigator so she could open the door. It hurt me worse than it hurt her, I promise you. When they touch a car at a show they don't even think about it. There are the ones that look over their shoulder first (soon to be dead) but most people just don't understand.

Didn't mean to imply it's poor people who do this crap. To many here on CC, I am poor.
meant more it's the people that have NO PLACE in certain places. Maybe the family of 9 shouldn't be looking at the new M3 for 22 straight minutes, with each kid getting a chance to see how well he can "heel and finger" the pedals as his ass is sticking up in the air and he's got his head wedged under the dash, smearing Ryba's fudge into the floor mat. they should be spending that quality time looking at a van, perhaps. Not to say it wouldn't be a fully optioned Grand Caravan w/ DVD player and 8 sunroofs. But there's just no reason.
Ron...
Had the same experience (well, similar) at the FIRST show I ever went to. It was there that I realized this is NOT A SHOW VEHICLE. Only at a show do I have to worry about people running into the car on a bike or roller blades, dumping ice cream or shredded chicken sandwich guts out on the fender, or have to deal with morons telling me I have no place at a show like that with a kit car. I tell them it's not a Kit. It's a fully engineered piece of machinery that will destroy whatever you have.
The gentleman in question had a 69 smallblock Corvette that looked like he gave it the Krylon Touch if you know what I mean. I wanted to spit on his car I was so angry.
He used every word on the book on me because I parked my POS next to his "thing of beauty"
I hate shows... I want to drive. It's raining. Dammit!

Sorry if I seemed to imply that all poor people were a$$holes, or that only poor people were a$$holes or anything of the sort. Heck, I've been poor myself, not that I'm wealthy now but I CAN afford a Cobra There are plenty of arrogant, inconsiderate rich a$$holes, too. Lest anyone feel slighted, please allow me to make the point that, to the best of my knowledge, a$$holes come in all sizes, ages, colors, religious denominations, political persuasions and sexes, and so do well-mannered, considerate, thoughtful gentle people.
After giving this topic a lot of thought over the past couple of days, I guess I have to admit that, while I find it annoying when some "rich jerk" behaves boorishly, it seems to irritate me more when I have a similar encounter with someone who is toothless, uneducated, unwashed, unemployed and ill-mannered to boot; perhaps because in many cases, I'm helping to subsidize his/her life of irresponsibility.
I agree that it's a respect thing but I respectfully submit that when the President of the United States breaks the law, lies to the American people, uses his position to punish and coerce innocent individuals and steals the freakin' plates out of the freakin' white house, he sets a he!! of an example. THAT'S about respect.
And yes, I think it's a liberal thing, too. The liberals have brought us the "whatever you want to do is fine" attitude, typified by the complete lack of regard for others which has become so prevalent, and political correctness, which makes it unacceptable to demand or even expect basic courtesy from others.
Ron, Ya did the right thing!

Lowell W I didn't want to make you feel badly, I just wanted to politely disagree with what you said. I too have seen poorly behaved people from all walks of life, I just dont want them behaving badly when close to my car.
Ron61 What a b!tch. Could you imagine being married to her? I must admit that you handled the situation very well. I am always amazed how people refer to the Cobras as "kits" but look at the 32 and 34 Fords as the real thing with a fiberglass body.
A fellow with a 32 Ford, blown SBC in it, etc noticed that his engine was getting a bit hot during a cruise night so he decided to pull over and let it cool down for a while. He was out of the car watching the other cars go by when he noticed a young lady trying to prop herself up on one of the front fenders to have her picture taken by her boyfriend. He went over to her and politely explained that the fenders are not very strong and to please not touch them. She said she was sorry and backed away. 30 seconds later the boyfriend is trying to sit on the fender to get his picture taken. The owner of the car hit him in the middle of the back with both hands, knocking him to the ground. By the time he got up there were a half dozen people right behind the owner making it very clear that the boyfriend better not try anything.

Has anyone else encountered "tobacco-juice-spitters" at car shows?

No, I 'm happy to say that I haven't. I have to admit that tobacco is very, very far down the list of things that I am willing to put in my mouth.

No tobacco juice spitters at the shows yet but I did see a teen take his chewing gum out of his mouth and stick it on a windshield. Very interesting end to the story. Owner was standing there with a few people and this idiot thought he was just one of the onlookers. The gum chewing idiot asked the group what they thought the owner of that fancy car would do when he fund the gum on the windshield. The owner just stepped forward and told him, here, let me show you. He grabbed the idiot by the neck, took the wad of gum off the windshielf, and made him eat it. This in front of several people and one plain clothes cop that I was with. All thought it was appropriate and the teen left looking as if he had been really mistreated.

Should have taken the wad of gum and stuck it on his damn forehead...bam!
But that would not be Politically Correct and you would be reading about it in the newspaper the next day.

Piss on PC--that has become the root of our social problems---people don't or will not accept that their actions are at fault and they have little respect for others property, rich or poor makes no difference..
If it was me encountering the "gum kid" he would get a short football elbow jab then as he was bending over to catch his breath I'd of shoved that gum into an ear so far it'd take a surgeon to remove it all the while yelling for help "hey this kid is sick call the medics"

After reading every post on this thread, I have decided that BDR #139 will be delivered late at night, and be hand-shoved into the garage while the neighbours are asleep.
The engine will never be started.
No-one will ever see it or touch it except me. I will just sit in the garage and just admire it.
Ice cream, sticky candy, window-licking kids, fender-leaning fat guys... KEY SWIPE...
NO!!!

UT,
You are going to way to much trouble. Just get the stuff and make and install an alarm unit that creates a field around the whole car. Range can be adjust as to what the unit does. Say anyone getting within 6 feet of the car enters the covered range. A very good deterent and funny one to watch is having a very loud recorded scream "Stay away from me." Next best is the 5-4-3-2-1 very loud followed by violent explosion. Of course you will be responsible for the mess. These proximity alarms work well on a roadster but not so well on an enclosed car.

I like the countdown-violent explosion thing.
The violent explosion being those four Claymores I have stashed in the basement.

My idea of a car show:
My friend and I often drive our Cobras to the local Starbuck's.
We park our cars in the typical "defensive areas". It's kind of amusing to watch people check them out, but I digress......
You see, the real car show we come to see has nothing to do with our cars.
The store is in a strip mall. There are pull in spaces right in front, the access lane behind them, then a parking lot where the cars park 90 degrees to the pull in spots.
We sit outside sip our coffee, and let the show begin. With great regularity, sometime during our visit, some idiot backs out of the pull in space and..... you guessed it, smashes right into one of the cars parked behind them. It's Great entertainment. Especially when the idiot doing the damage is the type of A$$hole you guys are so fond of. You know, the self rightous, clueless, imperious b!tch type who drives a 3 mile long sport utility with a pack of door swinge'n ice cream dribble'n whiny brats in tow.
"But what about the innocent guy that gets hit?" you ask.... We warn some people, while we just smile at others
Great fun.
God I LOVE Starbucks

interesting thread, this is. Haven't done any shows. Might. Might not. I have 4 kids, and when we go to shows I am constantly teaching them "don't touch!". I don't remember which guy has the 2 year old that he doesn't take to shows, but do take her eventually. Mine range from 13 to 4, and all are learning to appreciate and love "the car thing!" They are the "next generation" of car lovers, and if we don't teach them right, then they won't ever learn right! My husband has been in my cobra 4 times. Got snake bit the other night. Kids are in it all the time, and not one's been bitten yet! Easier to teach the kids when their young than to teach "an old dog new tricks!"
Have had my cobra for 7 weeks, or so.
