I have used Mobil 1 and or Red line in just about every car I have ever cared about! I have never used the others, but I would imagine they are just as good?

Bruce: The point that I was trying to make when giving the example of a jet engine was extreme service range. Regardless of whether it is a closed or open system, when it comes to flowability at extreme low temperature, and resistance to vaporization and viscosity breakdown at extreme high temperature, synthetic oil has it "all over" conventional oils. Just my $.02

Ok but the point I am making is it does not apply in this case. A jet engine is a closed and pressurized system not open to outside contaminates like an internal combustion engine. Non of the "oil" in a jet engine is open to the outside as it is kept in a sealed system. As such it does not have to contend with all of the contaminates that are found in a car engine.
I hear this argument all the time when it comes to synthetics and for me it just does not apply. Kind of like apples and oranges.

I found synthetic oil to run about 30 degrees cooler than conventional oil during open track use.The weights were the same(20-50) and so was the brand(Valvoline).I was running the synthetic on a hotter day so the difference in a more controlled environment may be even greater.

I remember when I first checked into the Amsoil products, they were making claims about reduced operating temperature. This included manual gearboxes and rearends. They touted that the gear lube allowed bare handed rearend gear changes when a race car was up to full operational temperature due to the reduced friction.

I never noted engine temperature reduction on the cars I've used the product in. It did tend to find it's way out of the engine & tranny more readily than conventional petroleum based products. These vehicles usually had a lot of miles on them as opposed to the change over just after break-in. Still, all in all, no complaints. I use Castrol Syntek in our MR2 turbo. (I saw a number of web sites that recommended it.) The Cobra is not broken in yet, so it's still using non-synths.
