Tell on your friends-More CA DMV Madness
A friend just e-mailed me this link:
Tell DMV
And I just bought SPF #995 yesterday with NV plates in CA! I wonder if the CHP will be pulling me over inquiring about my plates. I'm still legal as I have 20 days to report this purchase to the DMV and probably another 30-60 days on temp registration trying to get it smogged. After that, if smog doesn't pass, I'll have to garage my Cobra until next year (to file for SB100). It's just a shame to garage this beauty for 6 months.
I'll be taking pictures shortly and post to my gallery.

Howard,
SB100 is the only game in town for your car. DMV will give you a temp till next year then get your number, CHP, BAR, BREAK+LAMP your all set. There is NO pass or fail smog with SB100...use the year the car represents.

I don't think this article is really geared toward Cobra owners. It is the law and they are simply going after MORE REVENUE to make up the budget shortfall.
What I do find completely 100% out of place is the "inform on your neighbor" routine. That is bizarre.

Did you know that vehicle registration fees are due immediately upon accepting employment or establishing residency in the State of California?
What the ??? Upon accepting emplyment? What does emplyment have to do with registration?

Howard, be smart on this one. Pay your taxes on the full purchase price, go the SB100 route next year and avoid the DMV freight train. And ask your boss for January 3 and 4 off so that you can muscle your way into line with the others fighting for 1 of 500. Good luck!

Staying Legit
Right now, I wouldn't dare do anything remotely illegal in registering this car. I intend to pay full taxes on exactly what I paid for the car - no fidging.
And I know SB100 is the way to go. Curtis, I don't think DMV is gonna give me a temp for the rest of the year (I usually never get that lucky). It's my understanding that my engine is a 1969 351 Windsor. I'm gonna try to get it smogged as a 1969 when it's time to visit BAR. If that doesn't work, I'll just have to garage it (as hard as it's gonna be not to drive it) until next year. And you can bet I'll be in line at 8:00 a.m. on January 2nd for one of those very valuable SB100 numbers.

Howard,
It is a specialy contructed vehical period. So again the only game in town is sb100.
As I have said before, DMV a few times here in norcal, have TEMPed cars from out of state until the next year. That is fact.
Smog is not the issue here it is getting registered....and you can't reg it as a "69". It will reg as a Year 200X, smog as as a "65" body style.
From your other thread "2nd day" and a honey already... You da man! have fun

I had heard the IRS has the same "turn in your neighbor policy" with a twist- share in the bounty they recover. Where will it end? Steve

The "rat on your neighbor" policy work really well for Hitler and Stalin.
To make it really effective, what DMV needs to do is to offer a 10% discount on car registration for every "rat job" that someone calls in.
How about turn-about is fair play?
Why don't we start ratting on every state official that takes his state supplied car to the grocery store? Or every state worker that takes an extended lunch...
at a bar... and is drinking...
How about ratting on CHP officers that drive out of their patrol zone to go home and eat... or go out to dinner...
I was born and raised here in the Bay Area but I'm ready to pack up and head to Nevada
Who wants to meet me in 'Vegas?

They are still pissed about the reversal of the TRIPLE CAR REGISTRATION fees.
They are going to get theirs one way or the other. I saw the news on this one They are using CHP officers patrolling business parks, shopping centers, neighborhoods looking for out of state plates.
Great use of LE officers. Just a few blocks away people are killing each other in the hood. The gang menace, misplaced 7800 felons, drugs, and they have the manpower for this crap.
I thought the State of California Law Enfircement officers were over worked, the state budget was over taxed (pun intended) due to unusal demands after 9/11.
I hate to see them breaking their backs trying to catch Oregonians, Washingtonias instead of Arabs trying to blow up the damn state.
$100.00 fine for flicking your cigarette butt is being raised to $1000.00 also, At least there is a pending bill. I can't see it not passing.
