Dyno Day in Kansas City
The Mid-America Cobra Club had a dyno day today. My car got the fourth pull. Ford 351W 385 hp crate motor, Holley ProJection, Tremec TKO, 9" diff.
300 hp and 312 ft lbs torque.
Not bad for someone who doesn't know what he's doing! Heck with the loss in the drive train it comes out pretty close to the advertised 385 hp.
From the data I got I'll be able to play around with the ProJection a bit more, need a little more fuel early on (accel pump), but the engine pulled pretty darn good all the way to 6000 rpm. Great every-day driver motor.
I'll let everyone else fill in on their cars. 1 Chevy motor (if I remember correctly). A 408 stroker, a few 351W, a 351C, 428, and a whole mess of 302s.
Needless to say, what a fun day!

Great day
Hey Pete,
That was a hoot. I hope we get to do that once a year or so, the price was great and I think if a guy came with specific things to try you can accomplish a lot with 3 pulls.
I would second the comment of a nice facility and knowlegeable staff.

Will do Mark. Do you want the full 4Mb pictures or should I crop and resize to say 640 x 480?

I don't know about event chassis dyno pulls anymore. Did mine at the Fling last year and it came back at about 350 hp. Brand new...about 600 miles...couldn't figure it out and the operator was rushed. Had a "hotfinger" probing him.
Well...we discovered a limiting factor...or rather Buckley did a couple of weekends ago at Redding (a year later). It was bugging him as much, if not more, than it was me. He jumps out of his car when we stop for a cool drink, has me shut down the motor, flips the air cleaner off and tells me to floor the gas pedal.
Pat starts grinning ear-to-ear and tells me I owe him dinner. Seems my linkage was hitting the fan relay before the secondaries were being opened. I looked for myself...the secondaries weren't opening even a little.
We had the motor pulled just before the Fling to correct a cam plug problem, and I guess the mechanic thought he had put it back in right. I never really had floored the new motor before the engine was pulled or the Fling...and the burnouts and 1/8 drag starts seemed fine to me coming from a previous small block.
So...duh on me...duh on the guy who pulled and reinstalled the motor (we've since had a funny, but pointed discussion)...and duh on doing event chassis pulls where everything's a bit rushed. Sounds like you guys did it right with just your club.
Let's just say I gots a few more horsies running around now.
And NEVER presume anything!!!!!

Jamo,
There was a similar problem found (and I think resolved) during the pulls yesterday. Secondaries not coming on line during the pull, fairly easy to see in the data, real easy to see on the carb when the pedal was floored.
Another fellow had secondaries that dumped way to much fuel when they came on. Very easy to see in the wide-band O2 data.
Mark, mucho data coming to you soon...
