Default Off-Topic: Jag XK120/140

All,

OK, so I made the mistake of reading a Brit Classic Cars mag for the cobra content (so this is not completely off topic) and there were these really amazing cars: Jaguar XK120/140.

I'm on the way to getting educated with some book-learning, but given the impressive knowledge I've seen among y'all, I suspect there are cognoscenti among you.

So, where would one go to see and even buy one of these for US on-road driving/touring?

Doug, until Brent comes up with "clubjaguar" check out http://www.jag-lovers.org/. Classic Motorbooks also has some great XK books if you haven't seen them. The Xks are popular concours cars and are often at the larger concours events (Hershey e.t.c.) Keep your eye out for the Jaguar "Automobile" special on Speedvision.

Hope this helps,
Jordan

Doug,

You might want to check out Hemmings. They always have a good selection of 120s and 140s for sale. Probably find a few close by to look at/drive. Good luck.

Doug,

I too have always loved these cars. My Dad almost bought an XK120 when I was a kid and i have always regretted that he changed his mind and bought a German car instead.

Years later, while stationed in England, I rode in and encountered classic Jags on the road and found that they did not hold a performance candle to my BMW 2002 Tii. I kinda lost interest when I figured out how slow they really are.

If time and money were available, a fun project might be to build a custom frame with modern suspension and drive train under a XK120 body. Then, you would have the best of both worlds!

Paul
