Contacted S&W about the same thing, I have their gauge and sending unit (matched), they give short answers you already know and don't really seem interested in helping?. Anyway,
was told the sending unit in a mid-eighties mustang will fix, as I understand, it's a module that unplugs next to the speedometer and it has, sender, gauge, pos, neg clearly marked. I'm still looking for one.
