I'm 65, and I started building my car in 2001, finished in 2009. Driving my Cobra is a pleasure. The construction was however the real reward. I needed something to do with my hands and mind.

The things you learn and the people you meet is a great experience.

A project of this scale is something every man should experience once in his life.

I'm 33. Bought our first Cobra project last summer as an early 10 year wedding anniversary gift to each other. The car will be my wife's (also 33) and has been her dream car for over 10 years. We even had a die cast Cobra model with a "just married" sign on back under our wedding cake (her idea...not mine...oh yeah, she's a keeper). With any luck the car will be at least drivable by the end of this summer for our actual 10 year anniversary.

I am 62. I have been building my Cobra since 2007. The end is insight. The car will be used for touring North America, with my wife of 41 years.

I am 60 but I got a new Backdraft for birthday when I turned 58.

I had wanted a Cobra since I was 14 and my dad and grandfather got brochures from Shelby to be a dealer. He was Ford dealer in Jonesboro, AR 1929-1967.

Sadly for me, they did not do it.

I bought my Superformance when I was 60 and haven't looked back since. It was a car I have wanted since I was 16 and it finally became a reality. Regrets... NONE! I'm lovin' it!

Couldn't agree more Bill! I am 66 and bought mine when I was 60. It has been a 40 year love affair. Really glad I decided to pull the trigger.

Is somebody doing the math on our "average" age? Mean or median or whatever the smart guys use for statistical studies.

This page looks like most us could have AARP
memberships.

Best wishes for 2013!

I'm 48 - but told i look just turned 40 this week

I first got hooked on this hobby when i was 31, and it took me almost 10 years to build my first cobra replica. Hopefully the second will be a little quicker.

Mr Patton - love your tag line, made me laugh out loud!

btw my guess is that age will be a bell-shaped distribution, if so, mean is fine, but id like to see a histogram!

Default Histogram?

Is that ladies' surgery? Please call me Russell. Mr. Patton is my dad and 86 years old. He like wife's yellow 2002 Thunderbird. My car is too noisy and runs rough.

Russell

I am 27. Just purchased a finished 2008 B&B build that had about 130 total miles on it. Love the car, drives (and sounds) better than I could have imagined.

Hmmm...spread of balls? Interesting observation!

Yes, there are Cobra owners of the "gentler" sex, or at least ONE...I'm sure I will run across a couple more down the line, but I just joined CC today.

I have always been a "gearhead" and horsepower freak and have/have had many other not-so-traditionally-feminine toys. In addition to the new Cobra, I currently have a 118hp Harley FLHTCUI and 140hp custom chopper. I also have a '69 custom Chevy C10 shorty in restoration that will run an all-aluminum 427. My daily driver is a Prius (go ahead, chuckle now), but I also have a Hemi Ram for the toy-hauler.

Gee...it would be soooo much cheaper if I could just get off on shoes and handbags like most chicks, wouldn't it?

And by the way, as far as age is concerned, I'm of a "sixties vintage"...c'mon, you guys know women never divulge their real age!

I know. My brother in law is an internal medicine doctor and two of my sisters are RN's. One is a nursing professor and the other is a LTC in US Army.

Sorry for my feeble attempt at humor.

Have a great 2013 in spite of me.

Being into building cobras or any car for that matter is definitely not a mid-life crisis thing... I am only 18 and absolutely love any 1960's era vehicles, with the 427 AC Cobra being my absolute favorite. While I currently do not own or drive a Cobra I do plan to at least start a build by the end of this year.
