28. Had my kit for a couple of years before i started working on it. Spent that time collecting the parts i need for it.Wife started giving me grief about spending too much money on it so I got rid of her. Currently have a much more understanding partner who wants me to hurry up and finish the Cobra so that we can build her a '39 Ford hotrod as her daily driver!

Chicks that enjoy cars are so much more fun to be around!

i'm 20, didn't take the time to read all 26 pages of replies, but i dare say i'm one of the younger builders on here. the largest projects i've taken on before this are swapping a motor into a civic hatch, and putting on a couple of turbo kits imports. i'm building the cobra on my own, and trying to pay for most of it out of my pocket ( sold my turbo and motorcycle to start this project).

i'm using an everett morrison style frame and a 4.6 DOHC 32v V-8 out of a lincoln mark VIII (same engine as the stang cobra, but different intake mani, and intake cams i believe). i got those parts from my uncle for $1200, so that really helped cut down on cost.

right now i'm just finishing tearing down my suspension from a 78 mustang II. now i've got to have that old carcass hauled off and begin to clean, degrease, and por-15 all my suspension before i install it.

so wish me luck, and if anyone took time you read all 26 pages, or if you know of someone younger than 19(started a month ago when i was 19 ) then you got me beat.

i'm hunting for a 9" rear end from a lincoln versailles or granada with disc brakes, so if anybody knows where one is, or has one they'd sell, let me know if you could. andrew_1182@hotmail.com is my email

We sure do have a wide range of ages amongst the Cobra types. My average age is 62. My car/engine building began at the age of 16, right after I demolished my dad's new Ford . . . did a half roll into a creek. Banned from driving the family car, I bought a '51 Ford and built a screaming 8ba flathead using retired parts from stock car guys. It terrorized the '55 Chevys for a while.

After many car builds ranging from a ProStock Vega and IMSA GT to TransAm Mustangs, many stock cars and a desert racing truck, I now enjoy my ERA409 Cobra. Can't wait to get it on a race track.

4.6cobra: Hunting for a 9" Versailles? I think most of them have been snatched up. Consider retrofitting T-Bird/Cougar disc brakes to a 9" Ford. For a price$$$, this setup is available from Stainless Steel Brakes . . . or stick a complete IRS with disc brakes underneath.

By the way, I still haven't figured out what I want to be when I grow up. Lot's of projects and not enough time. God willing, our average ages will increase.

Cheers.

i've thought about a conversion for rear discs, and i may end up having to go that route, but i'm going to keep my search up. hell, the day before i went and got the 78 mustang II for it's suspension the same guy sold a complete versailles rear with discs for $50. said he just didn't need it. always a day late and a dollar short eh?

I'm 35 now. I've wanted a Cobra since I saw Gumball Rally many moons ago. I used to have race cars and one day I added up all the money I put into these things and I could have had two Cobras built for me by now. Now I have a kid and Enron has screwed up the economy here in Houston so it's taking me a while to get some money. My goal is to have a Unique or ERA in 2 - 3 years. BTW did I mention I'm 35. It's not a midlife crisis thing, that is saved for Corvettes.

Mid life crisis? How many guys do you know that are 124?
Yup I'm 62 and am building the first of three (I hope). It's amazing how the time flys when working on the car. I was
told that the fun of the Cobra is building it. I believe it.

Saw my first Cobra replica in 1984, still got the Magazine too. Saw one in the flesh at the drag strip in 1985. Talked to the guy for ages he even let me sit in it, I was hooked but never thought I could aford one.

17 years later and I look back at all the cars and bikes and related stuff I'd spent time and money on, what the hell have I been doing!!! Sold my drag car, sold one of my bikes and bought a Cobra kit.

I'm 34 now and want to be driving around in my Cobra when I'm 35.

I'm not having a mid life crisis, I'm having an all life crisis and enjoying every minute of it.

Cheers

I'm 33 and started researching everything I could about building or having a cobra built about 2 years ago. I think one common idea that we all can identify with is the mid-life crisis issue. Takes a lot of bucks to put one of these babies together and that much more to do it right. I have always wanted one since I was 16 and figured out what it was. At the time I had a show stopper 1941 Ford with a flat head V-8 (all original) that you could work on with a wrench, screwdriver and duct tape. What a car to have @ 16.. until I was introduced to a cobra. We had a car show or show up once a month at the old Jerry's and we would park out back under the drive-ins where the carhop would come out and take your order. The cobra was 2 spaces down and when he started the car the ground shook where I was. From there on it was love at first sight. Makes me want to take a cold shower or step outside for a minute to cool down. I knew from that moment on that no matter what someday I would have one of those. Tadaaaa here we are.
