Doug-
there was a pause on the other end of the phone, but i had a good clean driving record with no tickets.. (knock on wood) but i get a way with $78 a month. but i can only drive it 5000 miles a year, and i just rolled that in the 2+ years its been done, so its not too bad.

Boostedsnake, could you please post a pic of you and your Cobra?
The Kids in my car club, the Oklahoma Deadhorse Mustangs, make fun of me for being the oldest Deadhorse at 57.
If I posted a pic of you and your turboed ride on our forum, it would shut them up for a while, you betcha!
Thanks, Brudda.

I'm 58 - bought kit in 1985 - completed it in 1990 - so approximately 35 when bought kit.
Currently setting up car for track day use after driving a CAV GT40 on a few track days and having my enthusiasm for track days kindled.

42y.0. Born to a family racing a 289 cobra in 1966. My first car is a 1966 GT-350. I got it when I was 19y.o. I still have it today. Now I am waiting for a new CSX 4000. Born and bred Shelby fan.

Not the oldest! Oboyoboy!
Been a workerbee for all my life, put the family, work, community activities all ahead of myself til I reached the young age of 59, bought a kit from West Coast and have spent 18 months putting it together with amateur skills but tons of enthusiasm!! In ignorance I shoehorned a 533 BB from Ford Performance Products into it, so I'll have to go reeeeeeeeeeeeeeel easy on the pedal for a while, I'm sure. The body comes out of the paint shop in a week and the car will be in for a posi rearend before I put it on... Who knows....this might be a helluva lotta fun!?! The building sure has been

It's never to late.
I came to the Cobra thing late in life.. I was a "car" guy as a teen. Did engine swaps and even did ring job on my 55 Plymouth. Then as family and responsibility came on I got a VW then a Volvo then about 20 company cars over the years.
In my 40's my midlife crisis kicked in and I wanted to build a Cobra. At the time Contemporary was the hot kit. I priced out the build, well I though I priced it out. But as they say "If I knew then what I knew now" etc. Anyway I figured it would cost $25k, but I didn't even have a garage at my house. So I wimped out and went to the local Chev dealer and bought a new '85 vette. Kept the car 10 years drove it 50K miles. But was always sorry I did not do the Cobra thing.
Then at age 60 with family obligations reduced I thought of the Cobra again. Now I had a garage and time. I bought a partially built FFR. It's a long story but I ended up taking it apart and building it up again. Kept it for a year then sold it and bought a Backdraft. I started tracking it at age 62.
Then bought a Mustang Cobra and did the Cannonball One Lap of 07.
Sold the Mustang and bought a Corvette 00 Fix Roof Cpe, as my track car.
But I could not give up the Backdraft, there is no mistaking the "wow" factor of the Cobra.
Now an oppertunity persented itself to participate in this years Run and Gun so the Corvette goes on the back burner and the Backdraft gets the raceing seat back, with some suspention tweaks.
So here I go at age 65 to particapate in the premier kit car event in the Country. So it's never to late.

Well guys I well be 65 this month. I saw my first Cobra coming down the alley when I was working on my first real sports car a Aston Martin 2/4 1956 drophead. I had trade my 1967 MGB and 25.00 a month for two years for the Aston. The Cobra was red and had wire wheels and and I can still see it today in mind how sharpe it look. About that time I saw my first racing Cobra at Kent raceway Park just south of Seattle at the seafare race Aug. I had my first ride in one when I was laying over in Portland Oregon for the CO. I work put us up just acrros the road from PIR. The guy who own this small block was runing aroud PIR on a track day, he asket me if I wanted to go for few laps and I said sure and it was one hell of ride.
In 1992 I bought a kit from Classic rds and built a big block car 427cid etc, etc. And every time I take the car cover off and step down on the pedal I get a big smile on face. Thanks Brett for the web site and all you others who have posted.

My average age is 44. Today I feel like 65.
I built my first POS Cobra replica in 1987. I learned a lot...

Mine is all finished and I was 29 at the time. Now the big 3-0. I like talking with all the old-schoolers who actually know what they're talking about.

37, but brain is stuck at 25. Love at first sight when saw a Cobra in a museum as a child (30 some odd years ago). A ride in a 'real' Cobra in 'Vegas in 97 sealed it. ONLY car I've ever LUSTED after. I'm working my way through the buyer's remourse now before I purchase it so I can plunk down the cash with a clear conscience when the time comes.

i am 64 and sgot my cobra when i was 62. i always wanted one. i had 2 harley's at the time and so i sold one of the custom ones and bought an older north american fiberglass car. it had a 351 cleveland engine in it. it was a new engine and runs like a bear, but, i just soldthe engine and i am now putting a 427 with dual quads in it. something i always thought was something that had to be done if it was to be a real cobra , if you know what i mean! happy new year to you all
