The car and motor are looking great. Now just pray that all is it seems to be and they will finish it by the 15th and Dwayne can have his car. That would be better medicine for him than anything he can get at the hospital. That is going to be a beautiful car when all is completed. Dwayne, praying for you and wishing you all the best.

MrMustang,

I believe the motor was in that orientation because they were checking the bellhousing alignment. There is not a whole lot of room between the other side of the motor and the front of the car.

Let us all be positive, look to the sky and ask our respective makers to halt the cancer and get this car done by the 15th.

Just a quick comment on this thread, but the early build sheet for the engine that Dwayne ordered stated it to be a dry sump engine. As the picture shows, that is not the engine that is pictured on the floor. It clearly is a wet sump motor.

**** UPDATE ****

Dwayne's Car is almost done. However, Dwayne is not going to be able to travel to L.V. to get it. His doctors have taken him off the chemo. The chemo was killing his kidneys. They will send him home to Oregon this week for hospice care.

CS & SAI have volunteered to transport the car to Dwayne's home in Oregon. The final payment on the car has been made so we hope to get Dwayne in his car for a ride soon.

Thanks go out to Curt for the photos of the car and to all who have helped in this matter.

I hope they do not wait to the last day to turn the key. You really want it finished ahead of time to have a few days to wring it out.
Then deliver. There is no such thing as getting this car done too soon, in my experience with promise dates.

Hospice care is usually not good news. Hopefully it's a temporary measure until they can start a different therapy. I hope the car gets there soon and Dwayne gets to see and ride in his car. Our thoughts are with him.

No, hospice is not good news. breaks my heart. Dwayne should have had that car over a year ago to enjoy. I hope the 15th is a good date. Finishline Roy is a MFer for doing this. Makes me more than mad.

Dwayne is from Port Orford. I am from Coos Bay.

Did you have your car at the Cobra Corral at PIR durring the LMS race this year? The Vipers were parked next to them.

hogdealer

i'll have to agree with "bka0721". the engine in the photo does not have a dry sump oil system but an "aviad" wet sump oil pan. what's the deal? also i was interested in the fact that you "hogdealer" stated that the final payment had been made. how much more did "finishline" scam from Dwayne?? hadn't he alredy paid more than the original contract was for?

I hope that Dwayne is able to enjoy his dream car in whatever way posible.
SHAME on Roy Hunt, "Finishline" and yes "SAI" all deserve to share in the blame of this very poor excuse for a high end kit car company and dealer.

I've been keeping quiet for awhile waiting on what appears to be a "finished product" coming out of Finish Line by the 15th. I figured, after all of this, that there would be NO WAY Roy Hunt wouldn't get this car done by the date promised. But I HAVE to chime in here.............. I simply cannot believe that Roy Hunt took additional money (most likely thousands more) after already having 140K+ on this car and being EIGHTEEN MONTHS LATE !!
Is there more to this story than meets the eye, or is Dwayne just that desperate to pay whatever Mr. Hunt wants to get his car and enjoy it as much as possible before his demise?
And whats up with the dry sump 40K engine.............that ISN'T a dry sump at all??

Dwayne, if you're listening, you're in my prayers and I hope you get everything ironed out with this terrible ordeal. It's a shame it took so long to get your car. A terrible, unexcusable shame. I don't mean to speak for everyone (and I'm not), but I feel confident that this will not be forgotten by the majority of us here at ClubCobra.

Take care of yourself and have as much fun in that Cobra as you can! Hope to see some pic's of you and your car soon! (Hint Hogdealer!)

My experience in these engines is long. I have had two Kroyer Racing 427 dry sump engines built for me. Let me say, Kevin Kroyer builds some fantastic engines, especially for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series, just expensive. Anyone that buys one of their engines, does so with their eyes wide open.

I sent a message a while back on this issue to Hogdealer and he never responded. Changing the oil pan to accept a dry sump is not a workable solution. Because of the size of the 427 it requires minimally "3" pickups on the scavenging pump, plus a specific cam, custom bracket, custom altered alternator, crank, plumbing, Oberg filter/canton filter setup, reserve oil tank and specialized plumbing. The dry sump addition is a minimum 5K more, just for parts. The engine shown (which might not be the actual motor going into Dwayne's Cobra) would not have run in a dyno test in a dry sump configuration.

A wet sump engine will work well in a 427 Cobra, unless you really want to run is hard at high RPMS, for long durations at high speed or carousel turns at Buttonwillow. Just keep an eye on the pressure gauge. Also, the dry sump takes more maintenance and priming to use for a street driven Cobra. Not sure is Dwayne is up for the extra work required of a dry sump, but that is his choice.

I have had business dealings with Roy since 1997 and have seen him complete amazing things, backing up what he has said with results. He hasn't always been truthful to me, but he deserves the benefit of the doubt. I have witnessed him and his staff put one of these Cobras together in less than 72 hours, with less done than what is shown in the photos.

These are "hand built" race cars, disguised as street cars and require lots of $$$ to complete. Heck, the block alone is over 5K. Plus, parts are difficult to acquire at times. There is not a way I could begin to explain 26 months to wait for a Cobra from Finishline, but it normally takes a year to get one of these Shelbys normally from Finishline.

I would not be surprised that Roy hits the date promised, he has done it before, give or take a day or two.

Hogdealer:
Car wasn't at PIR last year since I didn't get it until Sep.
Port Orford is only a stones throw from Portland and there are a number of Cobras in the area with the most active group being the Northwest FFR Owners Group. There are about 30+ members who own a variety of cars, not just FFR's.
If Dwayne is up to it when the weather clears I'm sure we'd like to buzz down and meet him.
