You are right.... dead right. The reason that the flares on CSX, Kirkham, or ERA don't look like that is that they were ALL take-offs from a 427 street car. The only replica that I know of, that was taken off an S/C, was the Contemporary.

The original Comps had almost no flare...part of the conversion to an S/C had an exaggerated lip pounded out on the rear wings.

Major body work on many of the original S/C's have muted this original flare.

I concede that the gold paint above tends to accentuate the body curves and edges, but the flare is very much pronounced..

Look at this secret picture of ex-Ned's 3042 rear flare, taken by me using a highly accurate measuring instrument ...compare it to any of the S/C replicas
