I would like to know what happened to the test drive? In the beginning of the thread it sounded like a go. Did the car not materialize, or the group of testers couldn't show?

I blew my 408 motor (long story, now has a 427w) before the 2007 Bash and did not have a chance to bring my CER #1008. I wanted some of the instructors to drive the car and compare or make recommendations for springs, shock valving, tire pressure, etc. Hope to be there for the 2008 Bash and willing to let selected people try the car. Remember, you break it, you bought it! Ron

Hey Ron,
If there's time at the Bash or Track Day, I'd like to drive your car as a comparison to Chris's car. You know he had some real suspension issues, which is when I drove it, and I think they have since been resolved but not sure. Let me know if I or any of the instructors can help. I hope you and your car make it up for '08 and keep us posted on your progress!
imagine2frolic,
The group of testers are still waiting....

John,
I was hoping to have you guys try the car and compare at the 2007 Bash ... but the motor crapped out. New motor ... see dyno video. Not as fast as your JBL, but way fast for me!
http://host217.ipowerweb.com/~speedfre/page4.html
I called Chris today and he is still having a few issues. Hope to hook up with him in the next month for a road trip to CER.
See you at the 2008 Bash!
Ron

I never replied back after many inquiries to this thread from a while back, but here goes...The invitation to drive an actual car did not materialize; a few follow-up attempts, and then it fizzled out after 4-6 months of chatter. There was talk but no actual car to drive or invitation back then. Later on, other owners of CER cars who attended the Bash described their experiences as being pretty good on the track, so we just left it at that, but still have been curious to conclude this. However, an actual first hand comparison with similarly powered (500hp) cars is still something I certainly would be interested in doing with the understanding the final report would candid and to the point. Myself (ERA/Unique, others...), JMARSEY(JBL/FFR), PHOTOGUY(Arntz), SKIDMARC(SPF) and a few others were all ligned up ready to go and waiting; and still can be if the invitation presents itself. All of us have built and/or driven different make Cobras too, regularly, with more than just a few thousand miles on our cars, so in the original go at this, I felt it would be a fairly wide case of representation to give feedback. I'm still game, and I believe others would be if an updated invitation presented itself.

Hey Ron,
Good to see you are getting it back together. Chris is a really nice guy who has had more than his share of issues with his CER car. Let me know if you need a little support when you guys visit CER. I'd be happy to give them my 2 cents.
Talk soon, John

guys,
hope to report back in a couple of weeks when Chris and I can do a road trip to CER and compare our two different CER models-suspension set up.
I'd like an honest opinion about how different each of our cars handle and possible imporvements to our cars. Hummm .... possible Bash idea! A Bash exclusive, side by side comparisons of different models and motors of owners cars (no special setup company cars) on the track by the instructors (and owners?). Could be similar to golf club testing by different golfers with different handicaps. Then there would be a tech session on each of the cars for improvement!
Ron
I'm always tinkering!

Hey Ron!
Personally, what i'm most interested in for fun is evaluating various makes of Cobra replicas and suspension setups for driveability, predictability, and control under power load; especially while coming out of turns and over bumpy and changing road surfaces when the power is on. It's interesting to see how some cars get very disoriented, while others seem to glide along effortlessly. I just made yet another suspension adjustment on my own car this evening in another attempt to see what helps and what does not. It sure can be fun once you get it right though.

Duane,
It would be great to evaluate different cobra replicas with different suspensions and get input from owners and experienced drivers ... and what better place (and safe) than at the track. Hummm ... how about a mini track evaluation/suspension tuning day ... Thursday afternoon pre-Bash? (I assume the track will be booked Sunday) I've wanted to change spring rates, shocks, tire pressure, etc. and this would be a great platform for the evaluation while getting help from real drivers. Just a thought.
When and where do you NoCal guys meet? See you at the Bash!
Ron

Hey Ron,
We meet once a month for the NorCal Cobras group, 3rd Saturday of every month; but this is mostly street guys and Cobras. See the NorCal forum here on CC. Most of the full on track guys, shop owners, and ongoing builders around here meet at the monthly River City Shelby Club group meeting on the 1st Wednesday of every month, after work, or just at various shops as we all seem to run into each other shooting the shi%. As for Thursday afternoon at WSCB, that's when all the major Tech inpsection is going on and getting wrapped up for Friday; so that's probably not a good time. Maybe we could set something up down the road where a group just gets together here in CA and does some comparable evaluation backroad driving. For me, it takes more than just a quick run on a track to evaluate something; I like to try varying conditions based on how the car is used 75% or more of the time. i.e. For example, my own car would behave much differently if I had it set up for the track tires/springs/adjustments vs. street use. If you want to do a track-only evaluation, we could possibly set something up with one of the instructors at the Bash, on a private basis, late in the afternoon on Friday. There are two or three instructors we could work on with this. Between them on the track and myself more so on the street applications, we've all probably driven at least 30 different type Cobra replica makes, and including originals, etc.

Friday is Track Day.
Hi Ron,
Although it would be fun evaluating different cobras, and do it justice, it would be an event in itself. As the Director of Track Day, I can tell you the Thursday is the most hectic to orchestrate with helping Duane, car arrivals, tech inspection, driver’s meeting, and driving out to the track that night for setup. I think it was after 11:00pm when we were finally done. We are getting better at this but there is a lot of room for improvement. My focus on Thursday is Track Day on Friday.
I’m sure you could find a few instructors, a few of us have already offered, to help you understand your car better at the track. We will have time after lunch when the crowd thins out a bit. In fact, late afternoon would be the best time.
I appreciate your enthusiasm and look forward to seeing you at the Track!
Talk soon, John

If you would let ne know the date and time you are planning to go to CER I would like to tag along. I live in Manteca and have been in their old shop but have not been their new one. I don't think I could help with testing much as I have not even driven my own Cobra, yet any other one. Would be nice to meet up with you all.

Guys,
Totally forgot about the Thursday PM tech inspection stuff. Sounds like the ideal time for the Bash instructors to test the cars would be after lunch on Friday or during one of the 20 minute sessions. I'm trying to find a nice balance between street and spirited driving, since I only go to the track for Bash type events.
I'll let you know when I plan on going to Cutting Edge, will try to coordinate with Chris Carmen, probably on a weekday in the next month or so.
Thanks.
Ron

Out of curiosity, are these guys still in business? They sure seem to make a beautiful Cobra. Any idea how many are on the road?

Haven't talked to Doug or Kurt for a while. My guess is that there are probalby around 10 cars built. Their web site is still up, but I'm sure the price is wrong.

Wow, old thread, quick comment. Whether or not the rear of the body has been lowered, in appearance it is clearly leaning HARD toward the FFR look. Especially as viewed from the side/rear. The trunk lid itself is more rounded, the center "hump" smoothed out. But the rear fenders, over all shape, stance, look, it's FFR, no question. Some folks like the FFR rear look (go figure), some don't.
