Guys........Ok, talked to my contact. and he has been at racing events and has been very busy. He is trying to send me some pics....but felt it best to get you out the info that I have to the moment!(check site above for at least a partial view) Keep in mind.....I just wanted tires, not to be a spearhead for them.........so, i have no hidden agenda in this, but feel that If I could be helpful to the group, i did my part, the best I could.

Thanks, Curt! I was hoping it works out for us all. BTW, someone else mentioned to me that because of the price....they were going with the GY's.........no problem, but I do not remember any GY tire in 15' having anywhere close to that speed rating or performance charastics.......or did I miss something along the way..........I presently am just going with BFG RAdials TA until they get here in Oct.........then on they go......espectially with all the power i have.....figure my only hope is to get the best rubber on the road as I can........

Nope, everthing else (radials) is rated S or T and is a 400 plus hard, hard, hard compound. I sent your tire contact an email.

Here is the orginal thead where Malcolm got the ball rolling over two years ago to get these things produced. It involved a lot of work, and, he definitely is owed a thank you organizing the petitions etc. to have these done. Incidentally, he comes over to the US and runs the SCCA Virginia International Raceway Charge of the Headlight Brigade 13 Hour Enduro with us. This year, in November, he is bringing two other UK GT40 members/racers to co-drive a car he is renting from us for the event.

Not quite correct, there are in fact z-rated radials available, I have a set on my car. Pirelli P600 235/60 (high performance summer tire) in front, Nitto DR's in back 275/60 (also have 275/50, 295/50). Handling is far superior to BFG's or any S,T rated tire. You can find the Pirellis at Tire Rack.

I made a couple of posts when I found the Pirelli's, but for some reason didn't get much response. Maybe some don't like different front/rear brands. The sides are blackwall so it shouldn't really matter.

The Avon's do sound nice, albeit a bit expensive. Hopefully, they become available in the US. Good work to those spearheading the effort!

Yup, forgot about the drag radials. Problem I have with these, other than soft sidewalls, is the sizes. I thought they only made a 275/50/15, 275/60/15 and a 325/50/15. The 275/50 is too small at 25.75 diameter and the 275/60 is close to 28 total diameter if I am not mistaken. The 325 is too tall (28 or so) and too wide for me. 295/50 is perfect at almost 27 inches. I have never seen a drag radial in this size. Thats great if they are making them.

Attached are photos of a 215/70-15 AVON CR6 ZZ.

The tire photographed is a VERY TALL and narrow tire used for vintage
vehicles in the early 1960 era. It is only 7.6 inches in tread width and 8.86 in overall width.

Whereas the 245/60-15 for example is 8.7 inches of tread width and 9.88 inches in overall width.
The 295/50-15 will be 9.8 in tead width with an overall width of 12.2 inches!

So please use you imagination to expand the width of the tire considerably.

The compound should be excellent as it is used in vintage racing in Europe as well as the USA and yet is durable enough to run multiple events.

A SAMPLE OF TIRE SIZES:
295/50R15 DIA. 26.9 OA WIDTH 12.2 TREAD WIDTH 9.8 $338.00
275/55R15 DIA. 26.9 OA WIDTH 11.2 TREAD WIDTH 9.0 $328.00
245/60R15 DIA. 26.65 OA WID. 9.88 TREAD WIDTH 8.66 $288.00
225/65R15 DIA. 26.65 OA WID. 9.13 TREAD WIDTH 7.91 $273.00

As is normal with all things AVON there is a limited production of all tire sizes.
My advise is to pre-order as many as you will need immediately.

The first release is due to arrive mid-to late October.

A short review of the CR6ZZ. For reference, I have experience with BFG Euro Radials, BFG TA's, Hoosier TD's and BFG drag radials on the street and Hoosier TD's and Goodyear stock car slicks on the track.

Right to the point. This is an awesome tire - Extreme Grip with an 80 compound rating. I know some guys like the drag radials. Unlike drag radials, these tires will take high speed turns well. I have been through sweepers with the BFG drag radials and scared myself good as they tend to move around pretty good.

The CR6ZZ's do not throw rocks nearly as bad as the Hoosier TD's did. In fact I do not really even notice rocks. Another benefit, as compared to bias ply R compound tires, is that they do not hunt the road much. With the Hoosiers, a small rut in the road would literally rip the wheel out of my hand. The bias ply tires also tend to flat spot when sitting for a while. It eventually goes away, but you do not have this problem with a radial CR6ZZ.

While I have not really pushed these tires to the limit on the street I can tell you that they do give a decent amount of feedback before completely letting go. I do not want to track them because they are much more expensive than stock car slicks.

How long will they last. I don't know but will report back after a while. They do not come cheap but are similar in price to ultra performance 18+ size tires. Maybe as more are purchased the price will come down. Just my $.02.

Curt, great write-up! Always good to read feedback from someone that has tried so many combinations.

Quick question. How much PSI were you running in your drag radials when driving them hard on the street? I'm a supporter of the MT drag radial mostly because they are an economically viable alternative to the AVONs. I run between 30-32psi on the street and keeping the sidewalls stiff tends to increase cornering at the slight expense of straight line traction. But honestly, once these tires get a little warm the straight line traction (even at 30psi) is not much an issue. Also, the increased tire pressure tends to help you 'feel' them better and you can more accurately predict when the grip becomes slip.

In the end, driving these cars hard is a lot like driving on marbles.

I think there is a big difference between brands of drag radials. I tried the BFG drag radials on my previous car and also found them downright scary anywhere but the dragstip. On the other hand, I'm on my second set of Nitto DR's on the Cobra which I LOVE as an all-around tire. I've even driven these in the rain more than once at 70+ mph with no worries at all. I've pulled 1.6 60' times at the dragstrip on Friday night and autocrossed on them on Sunday. I think I had them around 27 psi which was probably a little low. I too have heard that Nittos were much better than BFG.

I run my Nittos at 24 psi, including at the autocross. For the dragstrip I lower to 20 psi.
