Build the Flip Top (CSX 2196) not 3002. No one has done that. It is one of the most, if not thee most, significant 427 built. Miles' project--stem to stern. The prototype 427--it doesn't get any better than that. The body, btw, is entirely different than any other Cobra, too.

Speaking of the Fliptop, here is a nice pic an attendee submitted of Rich and his wife driving #98 to the track at WSCB. A local guy built the 2nd motor for it. This pic to me shows the unique shape of the car. One of my favorite photos from WSCB. Peace!

Great pic and thanks for putting it up. I will let Rich know it is up on the Forum. A unique shape, indeed.

I agree. I don't know much about the car below but I snapped this at LimeRock a few years ago. FIA front and widehip 427 rear. Anyone know more about this ?

The blue car at Lime Rock is copying the FIA 289 Cobra body style, from which the eventual 427 design - less the cutback doors - was developed.

Yup, I was aware of the history. I posted this because I thought the body style was a bit unique. The car in the pic has a wider-than-normal 289 rear. As far as I know, that blue car is the real deal. They would only allow these two cars to stand alone at the show as they were presented as real. All the plastic ones were down the road. I know the silver car behind it is a CSX.

AC made their own version of the Daytona coupe too, BPH4B now, similar in design using chassis A98, ran in 1964 LeMans, crashed by Bolton after a tire blew, ran into by a Ferrari, destroyed car and killed 3 spectators, rebuilt by Barrie Bird with a new body from the orginal bucks by Maurice Gomm who made the orginal body.
I had asked once re. two pc. bodies and had posted a picture, I tried to attach it here, see if works. It was from a US company, I emailed them asking info but never got a return. If you are still interested I will hunt down the website.
I guess another body style would be all the off spec wannabee replicas like mine.

My Hunter replica has the 289 front end on a 427 body. Randy Hunter only made his body in the 427 style until I asked if he could duplicate the 289 front end, and he modified his mold to do that for me. His rear fender flares are not as pronounced as some other replicas, so mine looks like 3002. I left the fuel filler on the right rear fender, my rollbar does not go forward into the passenger area, and my guages are not correctly located, but that could all be easily changed. I never thought I was duplicating a "real" Cobra, I just liked the 289 front end. I had mine next to a Kirkham 289 body and they look exactly alike, so Randy did an excellent job for me.

Bumpster, I think you need to put some photos of your car in your gallery.
It is not right to tease us.

Beg to differ - the AC A98 Coupe might not be the best car in photos, maybe, but in the metal it has a certain quality. Front view is a little iffy, rear three-quarters is fine, but nowt wrong with its profile (see pic on page 104 of a recent book..) And it was highly effective and aerodynamically sorted from the off.
(I must load some pictures sometime....!!)

Yeah, you do that. All these guys with no pictures in there gallery. Shame on you.
It is like having an instruction manual with no drawings. Useless gibberish without pictures.
By the way, I like the AC A98 just needs a different color paint on her.

The color of A98 kind of reminds me of having a pie floater on a cold night in the Adelaide Train station, warm and smooth going down but the second time around, oh Lordy......both of them pea green...and how I hate pea soup.

Fastraxsg,
Thanks for the image. Unlike my breakfast, I'll carry it with me for the rest of the day.
