Default A98 AC Coupé

Hi guys,

My name is Robin. Currentley I'm building CSX2002 (XP98) and also AC's A98.
To build A98, I've started with a 289 frame. After building the chassis, the real challenge is in making a buck to build the aluminum body.
Looking for pictures of the A98, I think I can help?

Robin - A curious post.

Did you mean to say you are building copies of the two cars you mention? Because the real ones don't need building.

I too like the looks of the 289 front and comp. rear. I don't think it would get enough air to the radiator to cool a big block. Highway driving would probably be OK but not stop and go traffic. (I have been wrong many times though.)
Opinions?

I would think the smaller 289 style opening would STILL let in as much air as your cooling fans could pull at low mph or idle condition. Size wouldn't even be a factor when cruising.

ugly x2

Errr, fit a small block...?

Robin

I do hope you are planning a 'replica' of A98 and not the real deal, otherwise there might be a problem, as Ned has correctly pointed out. Good luck with that one, since if you do not have accurate measurements taken from the original, it will be a hard shape to replicate.

Yeah, you do that. All these guys with no pictures in there gallery. Shame on you.
It is like having an instruction manual with no drawings. Useless gibberish without pictures.
By the way, I like the AC A98 just needs a different color paint on her.
I agree, the AC Coupe is a nice looking car, here`s a photo I took of it at Chelsea Hospital a few years ago at the 100 years of AC weekend.

That car looks like a Corvette Stingray and a Daytona Coupe collided with each other. Not bad looking though. I assume that car was done by AC based off Brock's design?

It was designed and built in early 1964 (possibly earlier) and the finished car surfaced at the Le Mans Speed Trials in April. It's doubtful that the Daytona was an influence since, in every respect, the AC has a totally different approach and solution to the same set of problems - as confirmed by Peter Brock. If you start with a Cobra chassis, cockpit and windscreen and draw an aerodynamic body around them, you will always end up with something that looks like this - or a Daytona - or a Maserati 151/3 of 1963 vintage (etc)

No comprehensive books on it out there.... a sparse few articles on when it was built.

There are about 20 or so good images in the Gallery here.

Go to the Gallery and do searches for "CSX2196". "2196" and "fliptop"
