Default 427 Galaxie for sale cheap!

Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted for awhile as I sold my Cobra a few years ago.

I thought I would just give everyone here a heads up.

If you are looking for a 427 engine, I just found a guy near me that is selling a complete 1965 Ford Galaxie with an original 427 engine in it.

The ad just came up and he is only asking $3,000 for everything. He says it runs good but uses a little oil.

Just thought someone might be interested. Email me if you need any more info. The car is in central Indiana.

Also, I just posted some photos of my latest toy Ford. It is a 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang Indy 500 Pace Car replica.

Check out my gallery for photos. It was just in the Indy 500 Parade this past weekend.

Scott

Exclamation

It would be blasphemy to pull the engine from that car!

Plenty of motors out there to use in a Cobra....not too many 65 Galaxies left roaming the planet tho.

DAMN living in a townhouse! 3 grand for this is a gift!

Do you have a way to post pictures of the car?

Which carb does it have?

Sounds like a great deal

Recognize that the 427 in that Galaxie is likely to be a low riser, center oiler with a cast crank. I don't believe that the big cars got any of the true, high performance pieces from the factory.

Marco,
Are you nuts? A center oiler is just as ood as a sideoiler. With a SO you can brag that you have a so. That's it. The oiling is not a problem witha CO. Red blanc is still winning drags with a CO design. Oh yeah the Lemans thing. The next time you race 500 miles let me know

Marcos is just pointing the facts, and I concur he is likely right on target.

Don't mean it aint a great buy for the money, just a 'heads up'.

High riser heads were available that year...

Here is the guys contact info. It was in the local "Wheels and Deals" Trader Magazine. I have not seen the car. He is about 2 1/2 hours south of me by Indianapolis. I live in a small town in northern Indiana called Warsaw.

Good Luck. I hope it is all legit. You never know these days. At least it isn't an Ebay scam......

Let me know if anyone buys it. Scott

Not to get a debate started here, but when I read the comments on low Riser engine I thought it different than my recollection. So, I dug out an old Hot Rod that had a test of a '65 500XL Galaxie with a 427 and it lists and has photos of what they refer to as the "new" 427. With such refinements as a side-oiler block (shown in the pic), forged crank (w/pics) and machined combustion chamber Medium riser heads...also pictured. It had been my understanding from the late 60's that the Medium riser was first produced in the '65 model year which this old article seems to confirm. Now the Cobras may have gotten left over CO engines so the production line got the newer stuff. I also think the casting #'s for SO engines was a C5. They did ,however, refer to the dual quads as Carters though..... oddly enough ..those they didn't have a pic off w/ the filter removed.

Oh wait, I was thinking '64 model year. '65 would NOT have hi riser heads, most likely WOULD be medium riser, could for sure be Side Oiler, forged crank IS likely. GREAT engine at a great price if speced as above!!!!

As for side oilers vs. center oilers, I'm the original center oiler fan. Our old Cobra ran one, and lived fine with occasional blasts to 7200 rpm.

Like always, if it's too good to be true, it usually is.

I called this guy and talked to him at length. I had him under the car, in front of the engine...everywhere.

I first had him check to see if it's a S/O...it didn't have pipe plug on the front of the block to the driver's side of the timing cover. So it's not a S/O.

I then had him check to see if it was a C/O....it didn't have cross bolted mains and it didn't have screw in freeze plugs either. So that eliminated the possibilities of a 427 C/O and a 406.

There were a lot of 352's and 390's made....I'd say that's what it is.

If it was a S/O, I was going after it this evening.

Default Nuts

Sorry about that.

I called him and he said for sure it was a 427.

I didn't know the right questions to ask.

I knew if anyone would know, it would be the people on this forum.

I wonder if it was a 428 Galaxie.

I had one of those last year and it was a lot of fun.

It's not your fault. You only relayed what you were told.

Cars like that (and engines like that) are rare. You can about bet that if anyone within a radius knows that the car is there and has a 427 that it would already be gone.
