Default Engine question

I am about to spend big chunk of money to buy a use 427 Cobra with SB-100 ( each car have different type of engine), I assume the engine listed below are all good, but I just want to seek some advice from the group, since I do not know much about this, can some one share some advice

I can only tell you about the 392, I have the same motor in my backdraft, with the same heads and HP rating. Last night I was coming home from the car show here locally, and my friend was in his AMG SL55 benz. Its a brand new 2007, rated at about 600HP, it is very fast,,,,,,not fast enough though. My little cobra was neck and neck with his $200,000.00 benz, I got to the light laghing my ass off. I spent 40grand, vs his 200grand, and he could not pull away from me at all, even at 120mph he still could not pull away from me. I would say that the 392 is more than enough, especially for street use.

Why does the SPF have 2 engines or perhaps 3?

Guessing that you're looking at the Titanium SPF with the CHP 427 on eBay that's located in Santa Cruz. Looks nice. It was listed on Cobra Country a while back. There's a nice selection of SB100 cars for sale right now, so you've got some great options.

I saw a few on country cobra and 1 on ebay, asing price around $54K, I am so confuse which one is better, when I bought my Porsche I paid independent shop to do PPI (pre-purchase inspection), I do not know IF there any shop in San Jose can do the same thing for cobra

I have seen one person got burn in this forum when he bought his cobra, so just a precaution I need to take

Looks like you are evaluating two specific issues - Superformance (one of 3 different cars with distinct motors) vs B&B Cobra, with a different motor. My OPINION is that Superformance is a much better known car, only sold as a 'turnkey minus - or a turnkey'. Whereas the B&B, a kit, built by whom???? When you go to sell - my opinion is that the Superformance will sell quicker and retain a higher value. So then it becomes a matter of evaluating the 3 Superformance alternatives. I think the current price on a new Superformance roller is $41K. Then you add engine, trans and misc bits.

Before you buy an engine. do yourself a favor and check this guy out. His name is Aaron Johnson, and he owns a company called Bad Ass Racing Engines, http://www.badasscars.com/. Aaron is a no bull**** guy. You will need to email him first, and you will need to be patient to get an engine from him, but they are true. He just built me a monster.

TC, it would be good to know what kind of 427 motor the used car has. There are ALL KINDS of configurations. CHP offers a 427 that is a 351 motor bored and stroked to 427, and so do most other builders (Keith Craft, etc.). This motor is lighter, less expensive. Then there are 427 FE motors that cost a lot more. You should talk with a couple of motor builders first to get some of the pros and cons of each. An SPF roller is $42,000 (last figure I heard) and there is a dealer in the Midwest that has the biggest inventory in the US who can also tell you a lot about the car / motor combinations, and finished prices for turnkeys. When you get into the $54,000 territory, you really need to evaluate what it would take to get a new car, with your specs. Good luck and have fun. Rickd

TC. Another comment re research. Dynamic Motorsports is a large Superformance dealer. Located in Ohio with a branch in Reno, Nevada. Their website lists the roller at $39.9 with 'motor and transmission packages' from $10,000 - $15,000 and up. They list turnkeys, starting at $51,900, complete. So I would imagine you would be looking at mid to high $50's for a NEW CAR, color of your choice, with a Small Block 427 (351 stroked), or some other reasonable motor (402-408). Then YOU chose what you get. Good luck RD

I offer $50K for a use SPO cobra with 351W windsor bore to 427W, 500+ HP and the owner asking $52K, he seem very honest and he paid ~$54.5K for his in 2003.

I will contact SPO or Dynamic Motorsports and see how much does it cost for a new one with the same spec, the only draw-back that I have to go thru the pain of SB-100 and do not have the car for this summer

Just my Opinion. I agree with RICKD. Your in the $$ territory to seriously consider a NEW rollar. I am partial to ERA's. Great product and support. FYI, Rollar from ERA is competetive $$. Probably a little more, BUT, well worth it in my opinion. Good luck!
