Default car wont run at low end

I've got a 351w with accel dfi fuel injection management system. the car has ran fine until the voltage regulator was replaced. now the amp meter is constantly running +35 and when at a stop light the motor will go to nothing on idle and have to play with the accelerator pedal to get the motor back up to rpms it really has a hesitation also when the gas is hit and when it responds. yet when the car is going down the road it runs fine (no backfiring or anything like it) anybody have any ideas? I'm wondering possibly some electrical problem? any input is appreciated.

Default Possible short/bad altenator

Just a guess, but I assume you have a seperate voltage regulator. Since this all started happening when you replaced the voltage regulator (also, why did you replace it, was it bad?) I suspect that the amp meter is not showing the correct charge, matter of fact, I bet if you could measure the current another way, you may have a discharge situation that is stealing enough voltage from your electrical system and causing an inadequate spark. This could explain rough idle. Check your voltage on the coil at idle. If you are reading 13+ volts, your charging circuit is fine. If not, you could have a bad alt or regulator.

Scott

Yes a little searching and experimenting required. Possibly wiring connections. Try another unit.

May see you at the 'Run N Gun' - are you heading across. Anyone else from Indiana..

Can crew for you again..

yes seperate voltage regulator and yes it was bad. i've got to check out the voltage and amp out put with a meter and I have to admit, i haven't really spent any time with it yet but i was looking for someone to tell me exactly what was wrong. I know wishful thinking for electrical problems. Of all the things that can go wrong with a car, they're the ones i dread the most.

Default hey bernie!

I'm planning to go to run and gun , YES! And you can be on my crew anytime. I enjoy your company. But this year we can't go dually racing on the track because i traded it in for a half ton. (got tired of driving the damn thing everywhere & parking it in 40 acre field to get away from all the other cars. Also got my shelby gt 500 and very pleased with it. If you're in the local area, please give me a shout before the run and gun and we can get the turpins and local cobra freeks out and go partying before the real party begins! I don't know if anyone else is going from around here, but I bet with a little bit of coaxing, the turpins will be game along with a few others around here. Please let me know ahead when you're expecting to arrive. Take care!
