Is there a market for almost finished cars?
I'm thinking of selling my Shell Valley. I've been struggling with trying to get this thing finished for the past 4 years. It's getting close to completion...needs front wheels/tires, sidepipes, headlights, carpet, e-brake, paint. Most everything else is already done...some is in temporary condition until body is removed for paint. It has a 428FE (made 533hp & 472 lb-ft on dyno...I have videos & paperwork), a TKO500, and a 9" Ford rear.
Just testing the market to see how much money I could recoup.

I don't know about around your part of the country but out here the market is pretty soft right now. I know of a couple of people that have been trying to sell theirs for a long time and they are very nice and complete cars and the asking prices aren't out of line with what I see on here and Cobra Country.

Brent what are you thinking?
Come on buddy suck it up and finish the thing, you know you want it. I can help you out with some brand new ebrake cables, headlights, and possibly a couple other things.
I was expecting to see you at Run and Gun this year.

Clois, I'm a long way from being finished. Like I was telling Trularin, I don't lack much, but what I do is pricey: sidepipes, front wheels/tires, paint, carpet, etc. There's a lot of detail work that needs to be done...plus I have to pay taxes on the thing to get it licensed.
I've been 4 years on it and really don't see a light at the end of the tunnel right now.
I'd like to be at R&G, but it would be as a spectator only.

Gene, I'll sell either with or without the drivetrain...
PM me with the price range that you have in mind and we'll see how close we are.
Pictures are in the gallery folks if you want to see what I'm working with.

blykins...did you ever finish with your redesign of the clutch/brake pedal assemblies? You did not want to use the SV pedals, but rather have foot pedals like the real Cobras. Lot of work to do that. You and I got cars almost at the same time. I was revisiting back at Club Cobra today and saw your post. You had a lot of great ideas for improvement. I would think purchasing a project car would be a great way to get in a Cobra. Of course, you couldn't expect to get all your money back, but with good parts in good condition, and quality work on the car, I would think you could recoup 70% of your investment. It just doesn;t take long to have a lot of money invested in building one of these cars. And forget the man-hours. For someone wanting to build a Cobra, taking on a project is definitely a good option.
Good Luck with the sale ...

Outlaw, I see that you're selling yours too....seems like there's a lot of Cobras for sale lately. I did finish the pedals...they actually work really good and look good too. You can see them in my gallery.
Wish me luck!

Jim, I'll take $10500 for the rolling chassis as it sits....add another $12000 for the 428 and the TKO.
If anyone is interested, I can post videos so that everyone can see the car running down the road and hear the engine in the car and on the dyno.
Price is negotiable if someone is really interested.

Hi Blykins,
Hope you don't mind me putting this unfinished project up on this thread as well. I have a lot of money into the parts, but I'm putting the company up for sale and moving the project cheap compared to the cost:

Brent: I think that a big part of this decision has to do with the fact that the vehicle is housed at a facility 4 hours away from your home. Keep this in mind before you jump. Remember the thrill when you step on the throttle, that will keep you going.

Rick is right. Dang, I felt the way you are describing more than once. I just kept that finished car in mind and waited it out on money.
Yeah, I don't have the nicest car, but I like it and it looks good to me.
It is all about the end of the dream.

Brent I feel your pain I'm a lot longer into it and a lot further from finishing. Get it closer to you and stick with it! I don't think you'll get near what you have into it.

Brent,
Hang in there man. You've been doing incredible work and I personally can't wait to see the finished product!! Get it a little closer to you and I'm sure you'll be right back in it.
Cheers,

Paint the car LAST; let the potential buyer paint it the color THEY want. Carpet the car NEXT to last; the potential buyer might like to make it as close to the racing cars as possible. Get the e-brake Next to next to last; carry a wedge-shaped block of would for now. Get it running and as dependable as possible. ALSO get the car closer to home, as Mickmate said. Headlights should be a quick and easy install. Get the headers and sidepipes functioning, and get the Cobra to a point where it is a Cobra and not a bunch of disparate parts.
I would imagine that you would get the MOST money for a Cobra that is MOSTLY finished. AND, once it is mostly finished, you will see that big ol' light at the end of the tunnel RAPIDLY bearing down on you.

Keep building Brent! I know it's not much help but I have a floor mount Lokar E-brake handle you can have. It came with my Hurricane but I'm switching it to the more upright Lokar and don't need this one. It's yours if you want it.
