1957 Plymouth Time Capsule unearthed!!!
Many of you may have heard of the 1957 Plymouth buried in a time capsule in Tulsa 50 years ago.
Today, in preparation of hoisting it out of the vault on Friday at 7:00 pm CST, the vault was unearthed & opened. The vault has leaked over the years & there is several feet of water in it, the City of Tulsa is now pumping the water out.
Here's the link to today's story: www.kotv.com
Should be interesting Friday night when they pull it out & unbag it to see what kind of shape its in!
Randy

Looks like a 3500 pound bag of rust to me.

Unfortunately they buried that thing well before poly sealants and other coatings were widely available to the general population (the military probably had some stuff that would have worked but given everyone cancer). What a shame to have that car submerged all these years...looks to be a sad ending to what could have been a very interesting unveiling.

It really is a sad ending. I was really looking forward to seeing how all the stuff came out. Oh, well, at least mt replica body won't rust.

I agree with you all.
Although............. supposedly the bag that it was wrapped in back then was advertised to "protect the car from rust for 1,200 years".
We'll see..........................

That mud on top of the car make it look like was fully submerged at some point.

Yep, the article I read about it said there are 18 different water mark lines in the vault, wonder how long & how many times it was under water.

I guess anyone that would want to be buried in their car should bring a wet suit.

Too bad they didn't just entomb the car in an above ground vault. But I still don't get it. Were they testing the new glad ziplocks? Hmmm...Why not just put it in a garage. Or park it on the moons surface. People did some crazy things back in the day.

Because of the time period, it wouldn't surprise me that the vault was built/donated by a company building air raid shelters to survive the Nuclear Holocaust that was imminent. In the early 80s a friend had a shop locally and there was a bomb shelter in tha back part of the lot, it too had leaked water through it's ground bordered structure. Well it's good to know that if we had ever needed them we would have had plenty of water, the radioactivity would have given some interesting lighting,LOL.

Image taken earlier today...official unveiling tonight at 7pm local time. Coddington and crew to try to start it (!!!) next Thursday. Go to the original news link above for the update.
At least it didn't completely fall apart when they pulled it out of the vault.

One of the items packed in the car is a case of Shlitz beer. Anyone want a beer?
Another item is 10 gallons of gas, anybody got a bottle of Sta-Bil gas treatment?

Wasn't the car in "Christine" a 57 Plymouth? This car may start itself.

You can barely make out the details of the still chrome rear bumper and the chrome around the tail light. But I'm betting the rest of it is a rusty mess (and the interior?....forget about it).
