Default check out this hard top

A family friend worked for Shelby for a few years and owned or drove several cars in the time. This shot shows the hard top he had on 2169 he owned after repairing the car. It was a display car damaged while off loading from a trailer and was pushed to the sidelines till Fred bought it from Shelby. He had the local/shop body guy roll the flares into the wheel wells and cut the trunk lid for the top.
I added about 6 other photos to my gallery from Fred's collection. I now have some 300 hundred photos or documents from his collection I will go through and add a few at a time.

Weren't the first overriders larger? I have noticed the difference a few times. I just figured they were on the earliest cars?

Hey Yetiman,
You do not like the hard top? Too each their own ya know, blonde's or redheads. I think the top looks great and it does have a clean look from the side view also. I think it just flows well and does resolve several interference issues smaller tops have, at the same time it did create an issue for the trunk lid opening up so ?????

Mr. Bruce, I like that better than cutting the trunk lid in 1/2 like was the fix of the day. Look close at the photo too see it was shortened so it would open with the top in place or at least on this car. I think their were only 2 tops made of this style in this time line.

Speaking of hardtops, I believe DB Replicas makes a hardtop of that configuration, with the hatchback type access to the "boot".

My question is: Does anyone know what stateside replicas (ERA, Hurricane, etc.) is compatible with the DB hardtop? I've sent an email to the folks over there, but haven't heard back. I think it's a nice accessory, but it also presents the problem of paint damage as it rubs. Anyway, I was curious, if anyone can answer.

Default Split trunk...

Yep, our Unique uses the original type split decklid. Thought I'd post a pic, but I don't have any on this machine!

For some good pics of the Unique top & split decklid, pick up the latest copy of Kit Car Buider magazine; they have a feature on Mike Fields' red with silver stripes Unique 289 with the LeMans hardtop.

Interestingly enough, with the hardtop off, the split decklid draws more questions and comments than anything else about the car - I suppose that without the top, the purpose of the modified lid is a bit of a mystery to people. More than one person has described it as looking like a turtle's shell. And, more than one lady has told us how "cute" the decklid is.

Maybe I ain't that good looking, but by golly my car's got a cute a$$!

As Will knows, Unique builds a 289 FIA body style, with a LeMans top option. As mentioned, the trunk is cut crosswise, and hinged at the bottom. Here's a nice example of the Unique LeMans top.
