What's wrong with a Schwinn bicycle? I thought it was an original bike maker and Huffy was the johnny come lately bike replica company.

Was it that the Huffy had a stronger frame?

Bill,Bill,Bill;
My hero, my mentor. Now I have simply to wait for Chapter 1 of your new book. We've read the introduction, and "Harry Potter" is ready to run it's course. "We" are ready to get back to basics!
Someday my friend, "it" will happen again!

In the photo below, we show Roscoe with his feelings hurt after his mean sister said something about his ride.

She later regrets the comment.....BIG TIME!

Bill, great story. It is also great that you took the high road. It is interesting that you were driving an original and they didn't have a clue what they were looking at. Fortunately, these guys are the minority. I would pay to drive into a gas station if there was an original Cobra there.

The Huffy had a tubular frame.

Well Bill,

Like my father use to say to me as a child. I am going to give you enough rope, so you can hang yourself. These guys definatley left themselves hanging, and looking bad.

I have been here for about 9 months now. I always enjoy reading your remarks, and posts. You seem to be a pretty damned straight arrow to me. I too hope these guys are reading the thread. Maybe it will be a good lesson in life to grow up.

I did not read anywhere where you knocked anything, but their crummy attitudes. Tell us Bill....were you smiling as you drove away?...LOL

Wayne,

When I brought the Cobra back to my friends home I told him what happened. All he did was laugh, as he is constantly being asked "who's kit is that". His response has always been "Shelby's" and leaves the people who ask to wonder about his response. Having owned the car for a long time, purchasing it when it was (his own words) "not as valuable as it is today", he enjoys all interaction with his fellow car enthusiasts. Not quite sure how he would have handled the same experience as I've seen his temper flare at other venues. All I can say is, it would have been real interesting

Bill,
I don't really think you took the high road on this as you indicate and as others have indicated. The story would have been just as good if you did not indicate which group these A$$-wipes came from, but you did, in your own backdoor way. By doing so, you took a dig at me and every other respectable person that owns an FFR. I don't like it and I don't appreciate it. Sure, these guys were jerks and I liked the story of them getting their "just deserts", but the rest is divisive, offending and not necessary.

Maybe it's because I'm not an FFR guy, but I read the "perky butt" thing differently. It just added context, but didn't lump FFR owners/drivers into the a$$hole bucket. I like FFR's, but I didn't buy one. I chose ERA because I wanted to be a check-writer AND a wrench turner.

Rob,

I am not anti FFR, in fact I am and have always been a staunch supporter of FFR and most of their owners. In this case the three "other cobra replica" owners were in the wrong and I am sorry if you feel embarrassed by being associated with such people in any way shape or form. But being that it was important to but things in perspective for the continuity of the original post, especially based on "their" comments to me, it was. You clearly did not read any of my follow up posts in this thread, I suggest that you do so before you next response.

Doug,

You got the "why" of what I posted, it was not to throw all FFR owners into the same basket, but to add to the context of what was being said and by whom.

I'm building a very primitive Cobra Kit from a company, now out of business. My gauge cluster will not match original layouts and will not even be as complete as the pretty ones in the magazines. My suspension is painted black, I wont have IRS in the rear and my horsepower will be modest but hopefully reliable. I am building it as best I can with what I have. I suspect it will probably be a closer representation of what Shelby originally did - built an original from something that already exists based on a vision of his preference. I've talked to several guys with Cobras and came to the conclusion that so many of them don't know a thing about cars except "You pay, you turn the key and it goes Varooom!!! And that feels good no matter what the cost and no matter what the car is. Love your car and have your fun driving it. It's all anyone needs to know. Original, kit, or extreme replica, it's a car not a measuriing stick.

Funny but I've been on the Cobra scene going on 5 years. Been to lots of shows, looked at lots of cars and talked to lots people and I've yet to ever hear another owner 'pick-apart' another guy's car to his face. Must have something to do with the liberal gun laws in AZ.
Remember, an armed Cobra-community is a polite Cobra-community.

I wonder if the other Cobra drivers are members here? They could be reading this as we speak and feeling like complete idiots because of their actions and because of their lack of knowledge...That would be awesome.

I've only had my car for a little over a year, but in that time the only negative thing I've personally seen is a lot of negativity towards anyone with a chevy powered cobra. While it's not the way I wanted my car to be I see no reason to bash someone else for having a non-ford motor in their car, hey its their car! And at the end of the day, you've missed an oppertunity to hang out with a fellow car guy.

I've actually seen a lot of this type of crap at car shows. Oh that's not a real bel air its a 210 thats been modified, oh thats not an origional hemi cuda its a 318 that the guys made to look like one. So what. It's someone else's car. Unless you see a for sale car being represented by the seller as something its not, we should all take a lesson and just shuddup or be nice.

Just my opinion mind you.

Bill,
I read every post here, including all of yours. I stand by my post. You took a shot at myself and every FFR owner by naming which brand cars those jerks were driving...... I don't appreciate it. I initially chalked it up to a lapse in judgement on your part, but if you are going to continue to defend what you did, then I may have to reconsider my positon on that.

Rob,

You need to do as your screen name says and "Relax". Give it a rest. First of all, Bill just outlined the facts of what took place. He did not pass any judgement on a particular group. If you don't like the facts that is just too bad. I don't understand how you can get all over Bill when he just passed on a story of what happened to him.

With that said, as I read Bill's first post he does not mention FFR in his story.
