It's too hot outside. Almost as hot as driving my coupe with the windows rolled up and the AC off.

There is a hierarchy of replica manufacturers, to deny that is to put your head in the sand. A VW is not equal to a Rolls Royce, while at the same time there are some very nice VW's out there. We (Club Cobra) do debate from time to time what constitutes a great replica vs an 'also ran'. What is 'period correct' and what is not. At times with tongue in cheek, at times with a mean spirit, at times with a serious quest for the truth and an appreciation of history.
There is a time and place for such debate. During a chance meeting making disparaging remarks about another persons car is NOT the time or the place.
I appreciate the value of an FFR, there are one of several affordable alternatives within the replica world, especially compared to a modern continuation CSX car. Considering the hierarchy of an FFR vs a real Shelby, I do find it particularly, amusingly ironic that this particular group of owner/drivers would be so rude as to diss an original.
Certainly the same could be said of ANY replica owner/driver who is so ignorant at to completly overlook the fact that Bill was driving an original. But considering the source, I gotta admit, the irony does make me chuckle.
...'perky butt' was a dead give away to anyone who frequents this forum!

2nd that. I have to assume this encounter is a rarity - if not flat-out odd. At least I hope so.

It doesn't matter what brand car "they" were driving...
It has always been the same situation. After many years of both drag racing and street rods there was always a group of a$$holes who knew about half what they thought they knew and had no choice but to gang up on someone to get their undereducated point across. Being new to Cobras I expect it to be no different.
The very best part of your story Bill is that at least they might have learned something. Without the fourth driver there as a witness I'm sure they would deny it every happened.
Not that Mr Mustang needs the help here, I didn't feel like he singled anyone out as a$$holes. FFR drivers please don't take offense as I'm sure every other mfg has about the same percentage of jerks driving around also.
By the way Bill next time you take your buddy's car for a cruise I'm sure you could get a few hundred offers here to take the shotgun seat....I'll get on a plane in a second, paint chips and faded carpet be damned.

Consider yourself LUCKY that you have not seen this YET.......
Way back when I was about as close to buying a kit as I'll ever be, I did a ton of research and the kit I was going to by was an FFR....... My car # would have been below 100, that's how long ago that was, I test drove one of the 2 FFRs that were in the state of Louisiana at the time....I wanted to build my own car and at the time that was all I could afford, probably still is all I can afford!!!!!!
I went to at least a half dozen car shows looking at Cobras, taking my camera and pad with me, to get the best ideas from each make and incoporate them into what would have been my car.... At every show I talked to owners (at least 4 different manufacters) and they all touted their brand as "the best" which I expected, but one thing they all did at the time was diss the FFR brand to me when they found out that was the car I planned to buy!!!!!!!! The 2 FFR owners were the nicest people around.........
Because of this type of attitude, I put off getting a kit and ever since the dream has slowly faded away..... I doubt I'll ever own a Cobra, more likely a Daytona replica of some sort later on........
It's not about the car brand as much as the HUMAN brand, I've had the same thing happen to me on more than one occasion because I took a perfectly good C-code 65 Mustang Fastback out of a pasture where is was going to rot away and turned it into a pretty good looking 66 GT-350!!!!!!!!!
I have even on one accasion seen a judge at a car show diss an original big block Cobra as a cheap imitation till the owner showed him the CSX tag, then he walked away with his tail firmly planted between his legs while a he was laughed at........
There are A$$HOLES everywhere and sooner or later you may run into one or more........depending on the situation, sometimes I do what Bill did and just walk away, but on a couple of occassions I could not, and had to speak my mind..............
David

It's no surprise however that the nice guy in the group, who recognized the car as an original, was the Unique owner....

By doing so, you took a dig at me and every other respectable person that owns an FFR. I don't like it and I don't appreciate it. Sure, these guys were jerks and I liked the story of them getting their "just deserts", but the rest is divisive, offending and not necessary.

It is too bad that this is what the hobby has become. I wonder how many people..good people...get turned off by all the bs and just walk away. I suppose there is no way to overcome the recto-cranial inversion so common among people, but the few bad apples sure do sour the day. I guess thats why I am so gunshy about any sort of club. I find life a whole lot easier if I choose my friends slowly and just enjoy the day. Having said that, i'd give a years pension to have been there and heard what the 3 morons had to say when they found out it was an original car!! Priceless, I am sure. Only thing better would be to have them identify themselves here and watch the flamethrowers come out!

Rob,
I think when Bill said he "took the high road" he referred to "AT the Scene" of the crime/insult, not here on the FORUM, and I agree with others that he indeed did so.
Bill,
Next time you come to Daytona look me up again (hopefully I won't be working as I was before) and I'll show you around, and maybe even point out a few of that crowd here in town.....thankfully they are the minority as most car enthusiasts I have met have been "GREAT" people.

Not a lot has changed since the days when every Cobra on the road was "real". I can recall a particularly obnoxious 427-owning surgeon who loudly pointed out that my newly acquired 9-1/2" Halibrands had a couple of spots of casting flash on the inner surface, and therefore were not worthy of being mounted on my car. I wasn't immune from engaging in this kind of semi-good natured banter: I enjoyed heaping abuse on a certain gentleman who went on to become the exalted high poobah of a VERY well known car club because of the phony side pipes on his 289.

well whaddya know. I didn't know FFR's had round tubes, or that they drank Kool-aid or wore brown shirts????
Had to go to the FFR website to find out what kind of frames they had.
Is their butt considered 'perky'???
I guess what I'm getting at is that I'm probably the last to the party....
I didn't know WHICH manufacturer he was referring to in his initial post.
Now we all know, I guess. I figured it was some high and mighty SPF owners!!! or maybe CSX continuation.....
ya'll take everything SO SERIOUSLY!!
I'm probably a dipweed redneck mama to Uncle Bill, and he's well you know, the AUTHORITY on all things Cobra, but I didn't think his post was that bad.
go take a little drive this evening! it's summertime and the frogs are croakin' and the crickets are chirpin' and the sun is shinin'.
have fun in ALL THOSE REPLICA'S!!!

Rob, take a closer look at this cut of my original post, the items in RED are exact quotes from the "other brand" cobra owners in question.

Then they start picking on the car I was in, look at the lack of quality of the paint with all of the chips, and how the brakes seem to be inadequate and how the knock offs I was using just did not look right, same goes for the dash and gauge layout and the faded carpets, and what is this, a radio mounted up underneath the dash, REAL cobras never came like this.

You really want to be angry at someone, be angry at that particular group of eastern central PA residents who felt a need to stroke their own egos in such a foul manner. Do not be angry at me for quoting what they themselves stated. Perhaps I should have added all of the quotes in, but believe me, I left out some truly ignorant statements and observations from these fellow "enthusiasts" before I posted anything here.
It took all of my will power not to tell this story to the NJ breakfast bunch yesterday, or to Roger the night before while we were at his home having dinner. I did not do so because it would have wound me up and spoiled the mood. Hell I wasn't even going to post it here, because of people like yourself taking things the wrong way, but several FFR (and other) owners over on another cobra related site suggested that I post for all to see as it was worth sharing with the cobra community as a whole. One particular individual (a moderator of another cobra site you also belong to) told me I had to post it to ffcobra, (in fact he double dog dared me to do so) for which I explained that I no longer post there (I have my own reasons but it is nothing against FFR or their products), so I relented and posted it here.
So in closing, as you can now very plainly see, I was not dissing any one group, and have always told people off who were badmouthing one brand over another here and elsewhere on the web and at shows. Again you want to be angry or disgusted, your aiming it at the wrong person, as I have yet to say one really bad word about FFR or it's general ownership base anywhere in this thread.
Whether you now get it or not, I do wish you well.
Sincerely,
Bill S.

Having read and then re-read this entire thread I don't see any where that Bill said anything negative about Factory 5. Those people would have been the same regardless of what brand of replica they had. And for your information, I own a Factory 5 Coupe. I have seen much nicer cars and worse ones, but I would never tell anyone their car was junk like that.
Roscoe,
Evan is probably out trying to make his car look like a Factory 5 one.
