Sheesh you guys...

I think the whole point of the thread was to show that some guys need to "wise-up" before they make cracks about other people's cars, especially if they own a replica themselves!

I'm a proud FFR owner, but I'd never badmouth another Cobra, period. Those guys were idiots, period. And to quote the lovely Julia Roberts, they "probably have d***s they size of peanuts."

Rumble on brothers (and sisters!)

PS Bill I miss seeing your posts on the other forum. Nice to "see" you again.

I do mixed-marque track days with my FFR. On the occassions when other Cobra drivers show up, we enjoy looking-over each other's cars for the cheatin-bastage tricks that we think will help us against the modern day production cars. No matter who the manufacturer, or if it was built in a home garage or not, we share a bit of a bond in tracking a car that when driven near the edge can be quick to bite you in the asz. Obviously you ran across a couple of knuckleheads, and I don't know how you kept from cracking up at the comments they made. But you'll have to explain the kool aid thing...maybe that'll piss me off.

I believe it was me who originally coined the Kool-Aid term for some of the FFR guys after the Jim Jones, Jonestown party. It seems that whenever someone has even the slightest sincere critical comment about FFR's they circle the wagons. Many seem to have a very myopic view of things and will not open their minds to outside opinions.

I mean, just go over there and post, say, "Boy, those bodies really suck." and see what happens. Or say, "Wow, those Unique Cobras have a great chassis."

I have been on that forum for about 7 years and have seen the wagons circled many times over honest questions or comments.

So the Kool-Aid comment is to define SOME people who have just blind faith and small, narrow minds.

There's no question that those guys Bill met are complete jerks and, you're right, they could have been driving any other brand car, but they were driving FFR's and Bill made a point to let everyone know they were driving FFR's...........

I am embarassed that someone would do what those jerks did. I am more embarassed that they happened to be driving a brand of replica that I have. I guess my point is that the story would have been just as effective without associating any particular brand with their actions.

I don't post at all on the FFR Forum for the very reasons you stated. I have had other makes and liked them just as well and I like all cars period, I don't care who or what made them. Since I can't afford an original Cobra, I just tell people that mine is a replica of a kit.

This has really touched a nerve with lots of folks.

It is really unfortunate to know that a Cobra owner(s) would dis another's ride. We are all really proud of what we have. The marketplace has all manner of solutions to our desire to have this dream car. Every one of these cars is the right answer for someone. In my case (typical I think), I checked the market out for a couple of years before I pulled the trigger and bought. Sure I ruled out some cars because they were not right for me. But I don't understand dissing the guy who bought something else.

This is all the more outrageous since you were driving a real one!! The Holy Grail!!

ps - It is also interesting to see an element who refer to folks like me in a disparaging manner as "check writers" because I did not build my car. I wish I had the skill and time needed to do it, but I do not. It is a mistake to think that I am not a true sports car nut, or do not "understand" because I did not build it. I have wanted a Cobra since I was fifteen years old. I have owned and loved numerous other great sports cars, but this was the one I truly wanted all along. Originals cost too much. The marketplace for "replicas" gave me a second chance. People who write checks for these things "get it".

I think most understood the underlying point of Bill's anecdote.

I don't want to see this devolve into a brand bashing dialog, with the need for pro's and con's to be posted.

Let's leave it at that. Post on the issue only.

I can't even imagine driving a real one... let alone drive one a friend owns! VERY cool!! I love my SPF, but just the feeling of knowing you are in a real piece of history has got to add another element of "WOW" to the drive.

This has been a most entertaining thread. While I have worked on all my cars in the past, I didn't have the time nor inclination to build my own Cobra, so I did a fair amount of research and decided on a replica that was close to the original, a Contemporary. After having big fun for about three months, the 390FE (it was supposed to be a 428) engine broke broke

and I looked around for a "real" 427 sideoiler. I didn't have much luck and decided to bite the bullet and spring for a more reliable and nasty aluminum Shelby 427 "replica" engine. Of course, that meant I needed to upgrade to a 31-spline top loader, heavy duty suspension and much more. So while I didn't build this car myself, I have learned a lot about it by "rebuilding" much of it. My car is less "original" than it was, but it is a lot stronger and meaner.

I remember going in with just a bit of an attitude when I compared my beast with other Cobras that just "didn't look right." Fortunately, I have gotten to know a number of other Cobra owners and now appreciate their cars as I do mine. My car isn't perfect, but it works for me. And my buddies' cars work for them. But if I met someone with phony sidepipes, I'd really have to bite my lip!
