Default Oil Filter Length

I have a 347 stroker with a PowerFlo SL30001 oil filter (just over 5 inches long) and a B&B cobra. I installed the engine last week and the filter was about 1 inch too long. Does anyone know if there is a shorter oil filter I can use instead of getting the remote oil filter kit?

Thanks,
Corey Crawley

I use a WIX 51311 on my 289 (you can cross that over to your favorite brand, but WIX is the best I know about). It is 3" long.

If you have the room and an easy place to mount it, go to a remote filter. That way you can use one or two full sized ones if you want and they will be easy to change. I had mine mounted to the front frame cross bar and it took about 15 seconds to get it off.

If you go remote then use the Canton engine piece. The common over the counter one is made of cheap pot metal. I know of one lunched engine due to this.

You can buy the remote set up at almost any good auto parts store or order one from Jegs. There is a plate that goes where the oil filter now does with two outlets and you get a filter mount that you can put remotely where you can get to it easy. Most sets come with hose and you cut the hose to the length you need. Just be sure that you don't get the IN and OUT crossed up. If you are running an oil cooler these can be used with it an no problem.
