Isn't all of this discussion of REAL (pun intended) value moot until he actually sells the damn thing?

It's true, a car is worth what someone will pay for it. It doesn't mean that the next guy also has to pay that much, nor does it mean that because guy X paid 200k that when he tries to sell it that guy Y has to pay 200k for it.
This car is not worth 200k to me, but to someone with an unlimited source of money, it may be worth more than 200k in a bidding situation. That's why so many cars sell so high at B-J.

Don't forget the Chilli.
But most important he's known for and into cars and many detractors here began tripping over themselves and each other to get on line for the more affordable 4700 series cars when they were announced.
Proofs in the pudd'n.

Evan,
Have you recently been to a car show in Wyckoff with your CSX. I was talking to a guy at a car show the other day and he mentioned that he saw an incredible black Cobra in Wyckoff.
Just wondering if he has seen your car -- I don't know of any black Cobras in NJ other than yours....

Nope, you were wrong, that wasn't a good point. Maybe the next one will be better.

Here's another thought to ponder...
You never know what the "market" will tolerate, until you try it.
As of the past year or so, used alloy CSXs have been going for the 125-150k range. Glass cars were in the 65-85k range. Now glass cars are closing in on 100k, and alloy cars are going over 150k.
It doesn't hurt to try. We all would like to get as much as we could for something we are selling, right? Nobody here would say "na, I won't sell you the car for 200k, because it's only worth 150k, so just give me 150k", if someone were offering 200k.
The only way to find out, is to ask .

JWheaton: Not Wyckoff. It was Whippany, N.J. at the Birchwood Manor.
Chaplin: What can I say...if you don't think my last post was a good one then you have trouble recognizing a good post when you see one. I understand though. I can't help you....
Next....
The post was factual and backed up by price trends and contained the irrefutable acknowledgment...that Shelby's cars are what he's really known for.
Powersurge is correct again which just underscores my "great post". LOL

Another example of this would be the 67 Shelby GT500. One guy pays close to 200K for one (inaccurate at that) at BJ and the market goes crazy. Before the auction the best they were getting was in the 75-85 range for a good restored GT500. I know this first hand.

Morgan;
Zacctly, but the problem with the BJ car was there were two very rich "rivals" bidding on that car.....neither wanted the other to have it,that's why the bidding went crazy....before it went on stage, the seller said he was hoping for $100,000.00 to recoup his investment in time and parts and make a small profit on the car, needless to say, he was real happy with the final bid.....it was stated that these same two guys had gone head to head on a number of cars over the years......It wasn't about the car, it was about pride and who could show up the other guy........
right after that stupid episode, the original-unrestored-parked since the early 80's green 67 GT-500 that I drive by weekly tripled in price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all thanks to a few idiots at BJ........
