Josh,
That's why you buy a Truck... My wife and I both have 2 seater (SLK & Viper GTS), I bought a F150 4 door door for when I haul the kids (14 & 15) plus it's nice to have for towing the car trailer, yard stuff, etc....
Shortly we will have three 2 seaters and a truck... lol
Heck, there are several sedans out there you can buy cheap for a 3rd/ kid hauler...

On a short road course(1.5 miles or less) not many Cobras can keep up.

Almost bought an Evo in 2003 also considered the STI, would buy a GT 500 if they weren't going over MSRP of course it would brake the budget of $30000, heck I might just get another Backdraft. I need to sell some land anyone need some.

Wayne, I believe you inadvertently just described pretty much ALL of the available cars out there.

I think it depends on your idea of "fun"... and "fast" could be interpreted differently as well.
for a fun, tossable car, I'd say Miata
for more power, a 350Z
for a full-size tire smoker with a grea interior... a leftover Pontiac GTO

Limited to American car <30K
so the Mazda and Nissan are not in the mixregardless of your definition of fun and fast

Already got a Mazda, it is tossable just not fast although I did beat a pickup truck once in a drag race. My Ford 4x4 crew cab diesel dually is fast compared to most cars it did a 14.5 quarter mile but it sure is bulky, hell it even turns like a truck. Looks like the tang is it, can be modified reasonably to make it go and as a bonus has 4 seats for the grand kids who by the way will be driving in a couple of years. Still not sure what I will do as I have so many vehicles already just was a little curious as to whats out there.

I think the Chrysler Crossfire is cool. Very Art Deco lines. Might be budget-busting here. Maybe one with 10,00 miles on it.
I've always wanted a Jeep. Not so practical, but fun.
Don't know what the Prowlers are going for these days.
Something about the SSRs are cool.
That's all I have for American. If you cross an ocean in either direction, the list grows exponentially.

Ya, I've got a nice EB expedition for the family car, towing, etc. But having 2 roadsters just wouldn't be practical with a 2yr old. I cold see if she was older and could stay home alone, but for the most part wherever we go, she goes.
Another option with 4 seats is the SRT8 charger. Might be just over the 30k range though. They are low 13 sec cars off the lot. I've even heard claims of high 12's after a full exhaust. My problem with them.... DODGE!! The SSR was chevy's BIG mistake! Who needs a truck that can't haul more than 2 people, a load of sand, or a trailer? You could always hold out for the new camaro or challenger?

Ok,,now that we're totally off the Cobra subject. How does either the Saturn or the Pontiac compare to a Honda S2000, which I know is a bit over 30K but I've been thinking of a used one to commute.

With all the cars already mentioned.... solstice, sky, charger, evo, miata or even the Cobalt supercharged version. I would still take the mustang gt....2 door sport sedan...v8 power and sound...and a $hit load of aftermarket parts if you ever get bored with the standard power or looks down the road....

Speaking of aftermarket parts...how about a new nameplate for the Sky, which might make it a more manly name...the BrewSky.

They are giving the GTOs away. As long as you like blue or red interiors

Yes, they're more in the ball park of 35k for an SRT8. The black SRT8 with the polished rims... soooo hot!!! I'm a ford guy and I would probably choose the SRT over the GT. Especially if you'd like the seat 4! Ever sit in teh back seat of the new mustangs? There's ALMOST enough room to put your feet on the floor if you are behind a 6ft tall driver... ALMOST!
SRT8 charger, magna flow catback, home made CAI, and computer retune put down 376hp/367tq and turned 12.450@116mph on goodyear eagle f1's

Actually the Z06 and RS4 are about the same price. I've looked at both, still up in the air, leaning toward the Audi.
As far as American goes???? I'm sure there are tons of outsourced parts on the Vette.

Barry - Can't offer any comparisons to the Saturn/Pontiac but I can attest to the absolute FUN nature of the S2000 - in fact ( ) check out this link as I have mine for sale. www.photoshow.net/greatrides
I'd cover half the cost of shipping to LA.
Ditto to the Mustang not feeling real fast - that is the 300 hp GT version. Although I have not driven one the GTO looks like a neat ride and many mods I assume could be done to easily boost power to the LS1 (I think that is the correct engine).
