Default OK, Shelby experts...help ID this intake manifold

The intake is:
289/302 2X4 Cross Ram Box Intake Shelby Lettered
Finned Aluminum
Bill acquired it in a "clean out the garage" purchase.

I guess I can't fault him for not immediately recognizing the intake since it is a small block.

I would like to know the original application so I can tell my customer.

If any club members can help, I would really appreciate their input.

Thank you for your help.
Susan

Looks like a Ford/Shelby clone of a 'Smokey Ram', nice piece, wonder if it had its beginnings around 1967/68 when I think Shelby had a bit of an interest in some Trans Am cars prior to the Boss 302 & before the rule changers obsoleted this stuff overnite.

There was no otc application. It was a counter part sold as an add on by CS's parts business.

Does it have the Buddy Bar casting mark on the bottom?

"Shelby" Cross Ram made by Buddy Bar for the 289 were supposedly made for Shelby for his small block drag cars...aka Dragon Snake. I think they said that they made 37 of them.

Otherwise, otc, aftermarket.

Yes - Buddy Bar is cast on the bottom. Any other information/verification would be appreciated. This intake is finding a home in a GT40.

I don't think you're going to get much more 'verification' than that it is a real, vintage part. Buddy Bar was the premier casting operation back then, and did casting of factory Ford parts as well as aftermarket and specialty castings. They did quality work, usually marked their castings, but not always.

Unless it has a serial number or you have bills of sale going back 40 years, I think the most you can say about it was that Shelby instigated or profited from its casting and its probably a good casting.

Don't know what else to tell you...

The intake was prominently displayed in a lot of the Shelby ads from '69-early '70s. It was offered in a single version as well, the top was replaceable. It was usually sold without the carbs/air filters, so that's a nice addition. It was only an aftermarket accessory and was never standard equipment on a car. It was similar to the Cross Boss in design, but for a standard Windsor.
