Solid Mounts

For those of you running solid motor mounts, are you also running a solid transmission mount?

I would assume so, but no one makes mention.

I have solid mounts for my BDR and just relized I hadn't ordered my trans mount. I have found a nice solid and also a nice poly mount.

Recommendations...

Just for my own edification, why on earth would you use solid motor mounts in a street car?

ditto 496fe..... My guess is you will rattle every nut-n-bolt loose within an hour.

Many BDR owners have reported smoother shifting and power delivery with the solid mounts. It was also a recommendation since I will be installing a very "snotty" 410 race motor.

Since the car isn't a daily driver, will see some track time and should be well over 500hp at the wheels I'm trying to be error on overboard rather than the conservative... lol

Solid motor mounts are always combined with solid transmission mounts in my experience. Have not used solid mounts on a Backdraft "up here".

I ordered the Moroso solid mount last night... It just made sence to me to do so with the solid motor mounts...

When I had my BDR cobra, I ran solid motor mounts with a poly (energy suspension) trans mount. Never had any problems what so ever, as a matter of fact it actually cured a few annoying probs. Never had vibration issues, no loosening bolts, smoother throttle response, easier shifting and o'yell the whole car rocking at a redlight, that was awesome. By the way I had a real "snotty" motor also.

I have an electric water pump in my Johnex and it works very well. I have never had any heating problems.

Make sure that the wiring is well secured. The only problem I ever had was with the ground wire that shook it self until it broke at the connector. I fixed it and put heat shrink around it and never had a problem after that.

I have rubber motor mounts but with an aluminum bar on the driver's side to keep the engine from moving too much. I added this after ripping the rear mounts off of both mufflers.

My water pump was a meziere unit that Kieth Craft put on it, man she worked perfect. I have been putting on electric water pumps on all my race, performance street, prostreet vehicles for a long time now and had no water cooling issues at all. I have had some parts failure (some) not many but that was a different brand (CSI?), but the last couple of meziere units, no problems. I think they cool very well, the best thing I liked was the single belt for alternator only, used the CHP bracket only, didn't order the pulleys with. They kind of gave me problem trying to order the no pulley (option) but they finally did and I believe it only cost me like $125, nice piece, polished and all the hardware included. Mounted real easy, had to trim one spacer due to the thickness of the meziere unit's flange versus stock water pump thickness, wasn't much like an 1/8" or so. To me it was best money well spent. As far as the solid motor mount issue goes, think about short wheel base car, IRS mount rear suspension, new poly mounts that don't flex a whole lot ut enough to make the sidepipes touch the body and in my case made the air cleaner rub, coupled to the fact that not really a daily driver with a lot of creature comforts, put solid motor mounts on it with either a poly trans mount(worked for me) or a solid mount( don't know about that) and drive and abuse that mother vitually trouble free mine was. Although opinions will vary and be voiced I speak from mine own.

I also use solid motor mounts and a urethane trans mount. I want to eliminate driveline movement without turning the engine and trans assembly into a stressed member. The logic is that with all the flex in a Cobra chassis, a solid trans mount that's matched to solid motor mounts will place loads on the trans case that it wasn't designed to handle.

Soild mounts for 8 seasons and would not change it for reasons stated above . But I always heard never use solid/solid.
Tranny mount should be rubber or poly or you can crack your tranny housing.
You may want to check with Moroso,Jegs or Summit on this issue.

I agree a 100 percent with Scott as far as using a poly mount due to chassis flex. I should have mentioned but wasn't thinking aout it at the time. All of our dirt cars has engine plates but when we ran trans crossmembers we used poly mounts to help keep from breaking cases. Those frames were fairly rigid and I can assure you not many cobra frames are very rigid(only by design handicaps).

I believe the poly must be rigid enough for it to all work. I would not use a rubber trans mount with solid motor mounts though. A motor strap is another thing alltogether. I'm going to get a set of these mounts up here and see what we are missing
