Default Title problem

Need help with getting a title for my CMS kit cobra. Here is the tale of woe

I bought it from a guy who started it and did not finish it. He made the COO over to a dealer who made it over to me. The company is Florida based and included the proper forms to do this on the back of their certificate of origin.

Now Florida says that if the COO has been assigned to anyone else it is not possilbe to get a title. It can only be used by the first individual to buy the kit and get the certificate.

Can you say catch 22? I have the proper bill of sale and a notarized assignment by the previous owner but Florida is having non of it.

Any suggestions? The guy in Alabama who used to be able to do titles is in jail - is any other company doing something like this?

Sorry to hear of your problem. I don't have a simple answer to your questions, but I can provide a link to the Florida Statutes that apply. Perhaps you'll see something there that can help you out. The chapter you'll want to review first is 319.21.

Default Thanks

thanks Tommy
After reading that over I can't see where you are not allowed to assign a COO. I wonder if I just came across someone who did not know what they were doing.

Gee what are the odds of that at a DMV?

Good luck, hopefully that was the problem.

Default Who made it?

Contact the manufacturer and see if you can send back the cert. of origine and ask if they will issue a new one in your name?

Default will try that

I think I will try that. The company is now Street Beasts and probably does not have a lot of interest in something they turned out 15 years ago but it is worth a shot.

My experience in Florida, an MSO or COO can be transfer from Manuf. to dealer to dealer, but when transfered to a individual, it must be titled and taxes collected. What I have found best, is go back to the tag office and approach some one telling them you need help and what can they do to help to apply and receive a title. The car was purchased as a kit and was not ready to be driven on the road and therefore not ready for a registration and lic. that you received it from a dealer, not a individual. If this doesn't work, can you take it back to the dealer and have his tag depart. register it. sometimes they may have better contacts at the tag office.
